Okay, there's something I have to clarify about LOTR: BOROMIR IS NOT A RAPIST!! AND HE'S NOT GAY!! HE DOESN'T LOVE LEGOLAS THAT WAY!!Where in the name of all that's wonderful did those ideas come from?! Do you have any idea how noble a man he is? Do you? Well, let me enlighten you:
1. He is principled.
For Boromir, right is right and wrong is wrong, though one may be deceived by what one thinks is right and what one thinks is wrong. Of course, here I am referring to the Ring. He thought that it was the right thing to do, but when he finally understood, at the end, that it is altogether evil, and that it would be wrong to take it, he stood for right and redeemed himself marvellously.
2. He is patriotic.
That is, truly patriotic. Enough said.
3. He is courageous.
Most obvious example: he died facing hordes of Orcs, unflinching, and in honor.
4. He is loyal.
In three areas: Gondor, his father and brother, Aragorn and the Fellowship. Because he was loyal to Gondor he wanted to use the ring. In part, Boromir's loyalty to his father and brother was more shown in Faramir's parts rather than Boromir's. Boromir acknowledged Aragorn as King, though at first he did not. More than once, after his death, Merry and Pippin spoke of Boromir lovingly, and with telling words.
5. He gave all to those he loved.
Ok? We clear on that? I mean honestly, do you think that the people of Minas Tirith (descendents of Numenor!!) would so love a man who rapes? Or is evil? This Man was born and lived under the Shadow. He despaired of ever being able to redeem his people. He had to hold Gondor together while dealing with a Father who was not only Steward but also very much wearied, maddened even, by Sauron's bent for destruction. His younger brother Faramir, who could conceivably be even greater than Boromir, was despised by Denethor because Faramir understood much, his strength being different than that of his brother. Is it any wonder that Boromir grasped for hope in something that led him astray? More wonderful still, he redeemed himself -- he kept his honour. So please do not be condescending to Boromir unless you know for sure that you can do better than he can. He is deserving of the same praise that is given to Aragorn, Faramir, Eomer and the others.
Those of you looking at my profile because you are looking for a story for or a review from the following fandoms: Star Wars, Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew, Cinderella Story, Ella Enchanted, High School Musical, or Smallville, go to urlhttp://www.fanfiction.net/u/1561569//url. Anything done in those fandoms was done by my sister Twisp, who finally got her own account.
I keep forgetting to put disclaimers on my chapters. So, here's my all-purpose one: I'm just a nerdy teenager with a heartfelt appreciation for good books and movies. As such, I write fanfiction because I can't get enough of my favorite things. I don't make any money from anything, not even original characters. So there.
For Lord of the Rings short stories, go read Merrykk's work. THAT'S fanfiction! and I hope she gets published.
I found THE BEST Boromir Lives writer. Her name is majorbee and you can find her in my favorites. She's absolutely brilliant!! My two favorites by her are "A Gentle Touch," which is a oneshot, and "Rapid Peril," which is still in progress. Her Boromir and Faramir are perfectly in character and she comes up with the most amazing plots. Absolutely inspired. She is a huge inspiration to me and if I become half as good a writer as she is, I'll be content.
