Hello everybody. I finally decided to make an account on this site. Anyway, my name is Alexandra, I'm from Bucharest, Romania. I have dark brown hair and brown eyes. My favorite colours are any shade of purple, violet, lavender; blue; silver; gold; red. New things added now. About my personality: I'm easy-going, open-minded, I like talking about anything, from small, casual things to philosophical ones. Me and my friends usually make debates about different aspects of life. I like reading fantasy, horror, SF, psychological, and also the novels that combine different styles. LOtR rocks, Eragon as well. My favorite authors are Haruki Murakami and Stephen King. Now, I'm taking a break from Stephen King, sort of lost interest, and I've found another Japanese author, Yasunari Kawabata. And I WILL add more, considering that I'm obsessed with Japan. I watch any kind of genre on TV.My favorite movies were LOtR, Silence of the Lambs, The Last Samurai, The Gladiator, Equlibrium, The Illusionist, Atonement, Braveheart. TV series that I absolutely adore: House M.D. I LOVE anime and manga (though the latter not so much). I'm in the 12th grade now, and I HAVE taken up Japanese, the previous year, with a wonderful teacher. Hence my renewed obsession with the country, and reading of Japanese authors (in Romanian, or English, not on a sufficiently high level to read in Japanese, YET) Anime that I like: Death Note, Jigoku Shoujo(all the three seasons), Witch Hunter Robin, Kiddy Grade, Ergo Proxy (made by the same guy who made Witch Hunter Robin; I haven't finished watching it), La Corda d'Oro, NANA, Yu Yu Hakusho, Slayers. And many others. Now I shall have a little rant about Slayers. It was an anime that marked me, it was my favorite for MONTHS. Well, the anime itself is a parody, really, but what fascinated me most was the world created. Days after days I went on different sites, reading about the world of Slayers, the four Universes, actually, the one in Slayers is one of them, the one in the anime Lost Universe is another. I, at some point, had managed to memorize all the God and Mazoku lords from the 4 Universes. The novels are much different. Slayers was made after novels, not manga. Well, the first two series, the third is invented. The novels, as I said, are not funny in the least. I haven't read them, but I've read summaries, and they are very serious, developing the characters very well. So I want to read them, and I could say that I'm not actually so in love with the anime, as I am in love with the world there: the different types of magic, all the incantations, what appears in the novels. The 3 series also stick to the novels only until a certain point. I liked Slayers Next the most, because of the appearance of Lord of Nightmares at the end. End of rant. The only other anime that managed to grip me like this was, and is, Death Note. I mean, I've seen it, read the manga (and, as I said, I'm not such a great fan of manga), seen the movies, want to read the novel, and want to see the new movie. I intend to start watching Japanese movies and series, because they are also cool. I've seen Shinobi (there's also the anime, and I want to see that too)and 1 Litre of Tears (the movie, there's a series as well, not anime, I want to watch that too). Current favorite book: The Magus, by John Fowles. Words are not enough to describe its awesomeness. Oook, new update. I have added two new obsessions on my list: Johnny Depp and Sherlock Holmes. Let me take one at a time. First, Johnny Depp. Now, I know that a lot of people like him because he is HOT. I think he really is, and usually fwn over any image of him. However, I also like him because he PLAYS excellently!! I'v seen him in enough movies to be able to judge that he is a very good actor, who plays pretty difficult parts. His characters are complex, and multifaceted. Of course, the fact that he, in my opinion, has looks to die for, is an added bonus And now, Sherlock Holmes. That's a rather interesting story. As I said, I love the show House M.D. I read several times that House's personality was inspired by that of Holmes. So I said to myself: if I like House so much, there's no reason why I wouldn't like Sherlock Holmes. So I went to a bookstore, with a friend, and bought "The Complete Illustrated Sherlock Holmes", a gigantic book which comprises every work Doyle wrote about the great detective. This happened this summer, 2008, and, since then, I became addicted. I'm not finished reading everything, but I have all the time in the world. I'm actually doing my paper for English (big thing, at the end of 4 years of bilingual high school)) on this subject. Also, I intend to buy "The Beekeeper's Apprentice"; I managed to find a fragment on the internet, and found it excellently written. About the Sherlock Holmes movies... I know that everybody, or almost, considers Jeremy Brett to be Holmes. I can't wait to see the Granada episodes, but I decided to start from the beginning, and so, I'm currently in the proccess of watching Basil Rathbone's movies. And I sincerely admire the guy. For now, every time I imagine Holmes, I portray Rathbone. FOR NOW, I'll have a definite opinion after I watch Jeremy Brett. I'm not going to comment on Nigel Bruce's performance. Ahem. Another Sherlock Holmes-related thing: Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century. I had NO idea such a show existed, until I started reading SH fanfics, and I saw that some of them were written for this cathegory. I googled it, and, in the beginning, refused to watch a cartoon version of Shelock Holmes. I eventually decided to give it a try, and I have to say that I ws pleasantly surprised. It's a very good show (predominant American accents notwhitstanding). Another new cool thing in my life: Hayao Miyazaki and he's very beautiful animations. I still have to watch "Mononoke Hime", and "Howl's Moving Castle", and, of course, the newest one, but from the others I've seen, I think this guy is GREAT!! I'm probably also going to post something here, someday. I have ideas, but I'm not too sure of them. I actually prefer reading fanfiction, and writing original fiction. Well, that's it, for now. | |||||||||
