The FAQ:
If your name is Karis, why are you AvilaGrace on here?
Eh, I'm not sure. 'Karis' is Greek for Grace, and I've always loved the concept and the name, so that's where I got the last part of AG. As for Avila, well, to be honest, Grace was taken and a baby at our church had just been born and she was named Avila, so there we go...
Do you beta?
Absolutely. But be aware. I am a grammar nazi, and I hate posted works that are gramatically incorrect, so you will most likely have many, many comments. I'm also an in-character nazi, so I'll get on to you about that. My basic rule of thumb is that every writer should always be striving to do better, so when I beta for you, I'm not going to sugar coat your work with "Oh that was great!" (even if it was). I'll give you everything that wasn't perfection, and a few things I loved and try and work with you to make it better. I'm a better editor than I am writer, and I love beta'ing.
I just posted my first ever story! Will you read it?
Sure. But be advised that my time is really, extremely limited as I'm a college sophomore taking fifteen hours, working anywhere from twenty to forty hours a week, updating all three of my current fics pretty much weekly, and trying to have a life outside of academia and work as well. I'm not going to promise that I'll read all of your fic. I'm going to treat it just like any other, and if I don't like it, I'll stop reading it. I'll leave a longer review for you, though.
Yeah, what's the deal with you and your reviews?
I work hard on my stories. It is not uncommon for me to spend an entire afternoon on one story. There are plenty of other things I could be doing. I write for myself, but if there weren't readers, I wouldn't be writing fan fiction, I'd be writing real fiction. So when I post, I've poured a lot into my chapters. I want to know that you're reading them. But, that's miniscule. Really, I want to give you guys what you want and I want to hear what you think of the stories and of life. I like to have a relationship with people, that's just the way it is. Stories that don't have a lot of reviews don't get updated. I love finishing a story and having a community of reviewers...
Do you review what you read?
Yep. But, I don't read very much fan fiction. Like I said, I don't have much time and I tend to devote what I do have to writing. I'm sure you understand. But yes, you'll know if I've read yourself.
What about constructive review? Does that hurt your feelings?
If you're going to leave me a constructive criticism review, please, be smart. I don't mind criticism. I do mind it if it comes from idiots. Remember the point of the story; remember the characters; remember what they're feeling and thinking in the fic. If the fic is from the POV of someone who is confused, don't piss me off by making your review about how you didn't understand where they were becuase it was unclear. Obviously, that's like that for a reason. Because the character is unclear. Think about that kind of stuff. Writing is not meant to be explicit. You, as a reader, are supposed to expand your mind. If you don't agree with doing that, go read some Dr. Seuss. "See Pam Run," is a good one.
Can I give you advice? Ideas?
Of course you can! And of course, I have the perrogative to either accept or reject your advice based on how I deem it... As far as ideas go, yes, you can give me ideas. But know that unless an idea is SUPERB, I'm more apt to run the other way from it than try it at all.
What shows do you watch, and what do you ship?
Wow, okay. The long list of shows I watch are The Office, which is my favorite one. I ship JAM, Dwangela, and Man (Jan and Michael) exclusively. I also watch Gilmore Girls, though not so much anymore, and the only couple I ship there is Lorelai/Luke (aka, JavaJunkie). I watch How I Met Your Mother and of course I love Robin and Ted, but I do think Robin and Barney are disgustingly perfect for each other... I watch Grey's Anatomy... I can't decide if I like Mer/Der, but I pretty much love Alex and love him with Ava or Izzie... And don't get me started on how they've screwed Izzie over on that show. I also watch American Idol, Project Runway, Cash Cab and the ever popular, but sadly no longer airing, The Mole.
You don't have very many favorites. What's up with that? What are the favorite stories you've written?
I only "favorite" stories if they're pretty much amazing throughout. So, I only have a few favorites. My favorite stories that I have written are Shattered Everythings, 20 Questions Plus One, and Alphabet Saturdays (The Office), and Forgiveness Is Right Where You Fell (Gilmore Girls). I exclusively write for Office now, though.
What songs describe you perfectly?
Let's see. Plenty of songs describe me to a T. "From the Inside Out" by Hillsong, "Vienna," by Billy Joel, "This is Me," by Faith Hill. Listen to those, or read the lyrics, and you'll get to know me very, very well.
ALSO: Katy04 and I have gotten together to write a fanfic. Our joint account name is AG.and.Katy . So please, check us out. (To make it easier to access, I'm adding us to my favorite authors.)
Oh, and FYI. If you have any ideas for stories you'd like to see me write, send a IM/PM my way. I'll put it on my list.
Life is a dance floor; Love is the rhythm Any ideas, IM or PM me. If you don't see it updated with yours, don't worry. I favorite the lyrics and wait until I'm in the mood.
Ode To The Office Playlist If there is another song on the list you want added that's not there, let me know. I'll add it and PM you. (From Alphabet Saturdays)
