Enjoy the stories. :) Its or It's - Have you ever wondered whether it should be "it's" or "its" to show possession? Awhile back I learned that "its" is always used to show possession, and "it's" is never used to show possession! For example, "I put the candle back in its holder" is correct. (I thought this must be wrong, but four excellent webpages devoted to English grammar concur.) The word "it's" is always a contraction, as in "it is" or "it has". For example, "It's cold outside," or "It's got huge teeth!" Another way to remember which one you should use: substitute the words "his" and "he is" (or "he has") and see which one fits. If it seems to be "his", then you need to use "its". And remember, surprisingly enough, no apostrephe for the possessive "its"! This has really helped me with my writing and hopefully it can help you improve your writing and beta reading too.
