Author has written 48 stories for Kim Possible, Smallville, Avatar: Last Airbender, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, Inception, Uncharted series, Firefly, Cape, Batman, Young Justice, Batman, and Legend of Korra.

About Me

I'm a 23 year old college dropout who still lives with my mom (not in her basement, though I suspect that's only because we don't have one) and works at a call center. So while this apparently means that I'm a failure at life, it's good for you because it gives me plenty of free time to share stories with you. Real life is overrated anyway.

Writing

I believe that writing is a process of taking the movie that's playing in your head and putting it down on paper for the rest of us to read. While it's a good idea to get a basic education in the language of your choice, writing is not entirely something that you can learn in a classroom. It's a process, one that you get better at the more you do it. The only way to improve at anything is to practice.

My writing style is very simple, as I don't believe in using flowery language to get a point across. At the same time, however, there is a certain art to putting the words in the right order to convey a feeling or a message that not everyone is capable of, and that I'm still working on. I'm getting better every day, but I'll never stop practicing.

While my words are simple and easy to understand, be warned that I tend to pack a lot of them into one chapter. I see fiction as a means of getting lost in another world, to forget about real life for a while. I'm not one of those people who writes about 500 words and calls it a story. I rarely publish anything under 5,000, and oftentimes it's even more than that. Also, even though I know it's silly, I get a little jolt of pride when I look at my word count. It makes me feel like I've accomplished something.

My major strength as a writer is dialogue. I've gotten very good at hearing the characters in my head, and it's mostly just a process of letting the conversations play out on their own. I'm less adept at description, since I'm not a very visual person. I have enough trouble seeing people and places in my head while I'm reading, so I tend to take a lot of inspiration from visual media where the setting is already established and all I have to do is describe what I see there.

I hear a lot of people say: "I write for myself," but that doesn't really make sense when you've put your work on the internet for everyone to see. Emily Dickinson wrote for herself, and the only reason she got published is because her family ignored her last wish that all her writing be destroyed. That's what writing for yourself means. Once you put it out there, the story isn't just for you anymore. The context I see it in the most is when the writing in question is being criticized, which I'll go into more detail on below.

Ultimately, I write because it's a good way of organizing my thoughts and it allows me to say what I want without being interrupted. I publish it here so that you guys can read my stories if you want to. I'm not terribly concerned about a high number of reviews so much as I appreciate it when someone takes the time to correspond with me on a deeper level than just "update soon plz." I love discussing the fine details with my readers and developing a connection with them that isn't really possible anywhere other than online.

Constructive Criticism

Unlike some writers, I am aware that I have flaws. I like it when people point out these flaws so that I can work on improving them. As long as it's phrased politely (which does not have to mean nice), I'm very likely to listen and take your advice into account.

However. Constructive Criticism is a dialogue between writer and reader, not just a rant on the latter's part. It's meant to get me thinking so that I can strengthen my own writing, but there is a limit to how much influence the reader has over me. There is a difference between taking advice and following orders, and I'm the kind of person who stands up for my work. The purpose of the dialogue is to help me work out why I wrote something the way I did by raising questions that I wouldn't have asked on my own. If I can't come up with a good enough reason, then I concede the point and try to do better next time. What I don't like is when I respond and people automatically assume that I "can't take criticism." I can. It's just that I don't take it lying down.

Shipping

I am ship-neutral. This means that I will pair just about anyone together if it serves the story. I still prefer certain ships over others, but I stay out of the arguments that inevitably arise because I just don't see the point. I had enough of that in KP fandom, and it's one of the reasons I left. I've grown up now, and I've learned that people like different things. I'm less concerned about the pairing so much as I care about it being executed well. If you find me nitpicking the pairing in your story, understand that it's only because I don't think you wrote it as well as you could.

Author's Notes

Different authors have different policies regarding author's notes. Some are longer than the chapter itself, while others don't believe in putting them there at all. While I believe that it's important to put all the information that you want readers to understand in the story itself, I feel that online fiction allows for a deeper connection with the audience that just isn't possible with print media. I think of my author's notes as analogous to a director's commentary on a DVD. I talk about how I approached a scene, or what my personal thoughts on a character are. I also take time to inform readers of the update schedule (when there is one) and anything else that might have come up. They do tend to get rather long at points, but that's only because I already go on forever.

Updates

I update when I'm finished with the chapter. I proofread everything myself as I write, so it goes relatively quickly once I'm done typing it out. Given the mammoth-sized chapters I've been churning out lately, though, it takes a while to get to that point. I'm also constantly writing new things that I don't plan on publishing until I'm done with my current efforts, unless they only happen to be one chapter long. I made the mistake of putting too many pots on the boil in my early years, and I don't aim to do that again.

And, that's about all there is to know. Hope you guys enjoy.
