Hello!
My pen name/alter ego's name, Sarah Mercury, came from a rather long process. Here's how:
When I was in Grade 8, I decided to watch TNG to see why my dad liked it so much, and ironically, right around the same time, The New TNN (what is now called Spike TV) played a TNG marathon of back to back episodes from like 9am to 3am for a whole week. I became a Trekkie since then, and started developing a character in my head named Sarah. For the longest time, she didn't have a last name. Then my friend, who draws lions, like in the Lion King, said that she'd draw me a lion character, but the name I had to be sort of like the name you'd give your pet. Since I had always loved the element, Mercury, that was the name I gave my lion character. Then I decided the character, Sarah, would have the last name Mercury. And I also created a middle name for her (Maria). And thus, my character had a real name.
When my oldest brother got me into Deep Space Nine my character went from in my head to being my alter ego. She's more than just a fictional character: she's my better half. The kind of person I wish I was. And ever since then, any main female character I make in any story will always hold the name Sarah.
