A Bit About Ever After

Ok, so to me a great romance can't just be about love affairs and romantic scenes. I believe a true romance had to include a tragic or angist filled storyline. Why? Because tragedy brings out just how strong the emotions associated with love are. For example, Romeo and Juliet. The idea of death was so much less painful to endure than being apart from each other...

The point that i am slowly getting to is that if you are expecting or wanting my story to come with a happy ending to every chapter then you are reading the wrong fanfic. My story focusses around two young lovers caught in a world where there love just wasn't meant to be, but they refuse to let what fate throws at them deter them from their happy ending. It follows them through all the obsticles and heartaches they must overcome to stay together. Their connection grows stronger with every attempt to destroy their love and life together, but how long really can it last? Sooner or latter someone is going to get hurt and when they do, how hard will they fall?

This story was (as pathetic as it sounds) inspired by a dream i had one night, well it was more of a reverie as i wasn't actually asleep. It was just one short scene which i ended up building my entire story around. It will probably be written into chapter 20, if the structure of my chapters don't change until then and i guess you can say it is one of the turning points in the fic!

I already have the whole story planned out in my head which is why i couldn't stop writting this story now even if i tried. I am just so addicted to this alternate reality which plays along in my mind, it seems almost real to me (thanks to nintendo for setting the foundations for me, without the geniuses behind LOZ i would never have fallen in love with such a beautiful possibility...

Summary of Ever After

The castle is disturbed one morning by an intruder; one who is not only skilled in defence but also quite young for the talent he possesses. After taking half of the castle's guards to finnaly restrain him, he is thrown into the cells to waste away for the rest of his life. Zelda, who had become frightened by the anonomous introuder, has been given peace of mind knowing that he will be locked away and will never again threaten them. The next day she recieves a letter from her childhood friend ( the youngest son to the Terminian King) whom she has not seen for many years, telling her that he is making a visit. The news completely consumes her and whatever worries she had left over the young intruder were completely forgotten about. However, unlike Zelda, her father has not forgotten him that easily. He sees the potential the young soldier has and can also see how he can gain from his skill and valor. He takes advantage of the situation and decides to allow Link to 'pay off his dept' by training the castle's incompetent guards. Zelda soon finds out what her father has done and tries to reason (argue) with him, but of course, the king has the final say and Link continues to work for him. The arguement is interupted by a fearful maid, who brings the news of the prince's arrival. Zelda instantly forgets about the arguement, suddenly overwhelmed by the situation. She notices straight away how different the prince is, both in appearence and in manner and feels herself falling for him. We begin to find out a little about the young solder (who is actually Link, suprise, suprise!) and we realise that he is not as peachy as we would have liked; he has something in his past which is haunting him, but at the same time it is something he refuses to let go of; someone who he loved that is no longer with him. All he has to remember this mysterious woman is a locket she had given to him back when everything was how he wished it still could be.

After a while, Zelda begins to feel a little uneasy about how Ash (the prince) is reacting to her and tries to clear her mind by going for a lone walk amongst the castle courtyards one night. Link, while on patrol in the courtyards, runs into her but does not realise straight away that the woman before him is the princess. Zelda, who was initially scared out of her wits by Link, begins to warm up to him after realising how she had completely read him wrong, but at the same time, she is completely confused and intrigued by his unusual behaviour. She realises there is something about him which he is keeping bottled up inside of him.

We first get to whitness a dream which Zelda has been experiencing for the past few nights. It makes absolutely no sense to her and she doesn't know why it keeps plaguing her ever night when she falls asleep. The same day, she is told by her father that she needs to travel to Kakariko to acquire a dress for her coming-of-age party, in which she will also inherit the throne from her father and become sole ruller. But instead of being escorted by Impa, who coincidently is away on bussiness in Castle town, she must be accompanied by Link. Although a little uncertain, she is intrigued and is hoping she will be able to learn something more about the mysterious stranger who has kept her mind occupied for the past few days. While on their journey to Kakariko, Link suprises her by taking her to see Lake Hylia instead. While there she begins to find out a little about the soldier and realises that there is something major which has affected him from his past. She doesn't realise the double meanings and hidden truths embedded in his words. When Link takes her to back to the castle at the end of the day, she sees the locket for the first time hanging around his neck and begins to break down in tears of anger and betray and warns Link to never again come anywhere near her. We find out that the locket is actually Zelda's which she lost at a young age and the unanswered questions she has about why Link has the locket begins to drive her to finding out. She goes to Link's room to talk to him but is surprised when Link refuses to see her. She is taken aback, but realises something is not right. We find out that Link has been hurting himself and refuses to let Zelda see him consumed by his weakness.

The next day, Zelda ambushes Link and refuses to leave until he explains to her why he has her locket. Link gives in and tells her. Link tells her about a time when Hyrule was in war and Zelda was the only one who could turn back time and reclaim the years lost by the war. She gave him the locket before everything changed and tragically when it did, the only person to remember their past life was Link. Zelda was the woman Link had loved and lost. Zelda becomes overwhelmed by the news, more overwhelmed that she should feel and that is when she realises how much she cares for Link. But she knows that their love can not be because of her father who would surely kill Link if he found out about them, so she tries (unsuccessfully) to walk away and forget her lover. She eventually gives in and realises she can not fight the need she has for Link and they decide to risk everything and try to remain close without anyone catching on.

When Link is off duty he tries to spend as much time with Zelda as he can. One night, a dinner is hosted at the castle in which the most esteemed leaders and individuals from the land were invited to dine in Ash’s honour. However, to Zelda’s utter surprise, Link was sent for to dine amongst the rest. And of course there is a bit of unspoken hostility amongst the prince and Link. At the end of the night, Ash, watching Link with suspicious eyes, notices him run his hand inconspicuously along the princess’ back in a manner inappropriate for even the best of friends let alone a complete stranger to her. He vows to keep a watchful eye on the two. The next day, Zelda is told about a surprise her father has gotten for her which sends her to his office. She receives an elaborate dress which while in her haste to observe its beauty, she manages to spill ink all over her father’s desk. While searching for something to clean the ink with, she stumbles across a draw full of opened letters which she instantly recognises as having Ash’s handwriting on. The letters detail an arrangement which has been put in place for Zelda to be married with Ash and for him to gain control of the thrown instead of the princess. -summary to be continued-
