I'm nineteen and live in the UK. This means I get confused and uncomfortable if it doesn't rain at least once a week, have an unhealthy love of tea,
Fandom
I prefer the Harry Potter fandom above all others. It's got an extremely active community, a bunch of excellent writers, and a ton of great resources and fansites.
I like my Harrys Independent and Dark, but not hack and slash dark. Mindless gore is boring. So are the Harry-who-toys-with-the-Dark-but-finds-his-objectionably-wholesome-moral-values-in-the-end plots. If you're going to make him dark, make him dark, but my god stop hopping around the line like someone's locked you in hot metal dancing shoes.
I like het, slash and femmeslash. As long as it's well written and has a good plot, I'll read it. I've read Harry/Moody and Harry/Umbridge for as long as it kept my interest. I'll even read Harry/Draco or Harry/Ginny if you can make it engaging, but it'll need a decent recommendation for me to consider clicking the link. When I started into fanfiction, both appealed. Now I've read enough to recognise clichés and tell grammatically good writing from plotwise good writing, I tend to steer clear of that viper's nest. Besides, the She's-So-Much-Like-Your-Mother-Ginny-Sue sets my oedipal alarm bells ringing too loudly for me to do anything but hit the Back button with the greatest speed.
For slash, it'll always be Harry/Tom or Harry/Voldemort. With het it'll be Harry/Bella, Harry/Tonks, Harry/Cho, Harry/lesser mentioned Slytherin girl or any underused female character in the books. Oh, and Harry/Fem!Harry.
On Deathly Hallows - I liked it, and didn't like it. There were more than the expected spattering of deus ex machina's, but overall it was better than HBP. The background on Dumbledore and Grindelwald was what made it for me. We always knew he was a manipulative old bastard, and now there's no way for people to claim otherwise ;)
Voldemort - Dark, evil, but not stupid. I like my Voldemorts calculating, ruthless and utterly manipulative. I don't like ridiculously out of control and angry Voldemort who can only impotently yell Crucio to an utterly superior and good Harry. I particularly don't like him being redeemed, especially by confessing his childhood rape/abuse/molestation to a sympathetic ear. In my head, he's just a devil child-turned evil bastard.
Dumbledore - Light, genius, incredibly manipulative. The words 'pawn', 'puppet master' and 'manipulations' are used far too often in conjunction with Dumbledore in fanfiction. He should be an excellent schemer, and more than able to not get caught out by a 16 year old boy with an attitude problem. I don't like out-of-control-emotionally-Dumbledore who goes from crying to shouting to crying. I don't like dimwit!Dumbledore. I don't like him crumpling and folding and revealing all his terrible manipulations under the righteous onslaught of Potter's anger, and then still pathetically trying to control him even after he's been 'figured out'.
Harry - As said before, I like the independent dark flavour. I don't like the hopelessly light sided Harry who gets ordered around by everyone, their girlfriend, and their girlfriend's dog. I don't like characters who he's paired with who end up just filling the role of fiery, bossy-but-so-kind Ginny-Sue. I do like romance that's well done, without him losing all personal fortitude and self-respect. Harry is nobody's bitch, but neither are they all gonna be his.
Stories
Status /dd/mm/yy/ (09/08/08): I'm tentatively starting chapter 11 and discovering that Hogwarts and the plot need for violence and explosions of epic and destructive proportions don't mix too well. And I'm not talking about pranks here. Think gasoline, dynamite and matches explosions. Slow going, as always. Maybe expect it to be done and begun posting around Christmas, depending on how jobs interfere.
Maelstrom - My current story. Timetravel, multiple personalities, thievery oh my. I have every intention of finishing it, but promises pop like balloons. So I won't make promises. I made the mistake of posting it before I'd actually finished writing it and learnt an important fact about myself - I can't write that fast. But don't cry my pretties, when I've fixed all the little errors and finished up you'll get consistently speedy updates. How fun.
Ideas - I've got a few kicking around. Three chapters and 31,990 words of one to be exact. You might even see some of it soon. So if it looks like I'm not updating, never to fear, I'm still writing voraciously.
Things I Like
Biology, the skeletal structure of animals, fungi, tea and chocolate, rain.

Discussing the weather. Cloud formations, cold fronts and anticyclonic days - bring it on.

When people spell Lucius 'luscious' in their fics.
Grammar. Mmm...grammar.

The first new and promising HP fanfic I've found in a long while. Concise writing style, a Harry who's smart and reasonably proactive, Peeves, and unexplained but (so far) un-cliche feats of magic. What more could you want?
