Following My Fanfiction Challenge List is my very long list of examples of well-written Stargate Atlantis fanfiction stories (I collect them like dust bunnies), and don't worry as none of the stories on list were written by me, so they are much better than mine. About me: I live somewhere on the North American continent on the planet Earth, which is in the Sol System, which is in the outer reaches of the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. I like reading books and fan-fiction, drawing, painting, writing, editing stories and people-watching. I going make this very clear...I did not create this icon or any other icon (yet). I admit that I am borrowing the icon from it's creator's (sorry, I cannot remember their name) website. Also, I admit that I don't review as often as I probably should. However, most of the time (around 95 percent or so) that I don't review it is either because I so tired I cannot think straight or type coherently, or because the story/chapter left me completely and utterly speechless at it's goodness. (this is also known as Sod's Law and as Finagle's Law of Dynamic Negatives) - You will always find something in the last place you look. - No matter how long or how hard you shop for an item, after you've bought it, it will be on sale somewhere cheaper. - The other line always moves faster. - In order to get a loan, you must first prove you don't need it. - Anything you try to fix will take longer and cost you more than you thought. - If you fool around with a thing for very long you will screw it up. - If it jams - force it. Random, Somewhat Pointless, but Interesting Facts - A person will die from total lack of sleep sooner than from starvation. The name of the ship in his novel - The Titan. - A cute mathematical trick: 111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321 - Wraith - n. - an apparition of a living person that appears as a portent just before that person's death - Mary Sue, sometimes shortened simply to Sue, is a pejorative term used to describe a fictional character who plays a major role in the plot on such a scale that suspension of disbelief fails due to the character's traits, skills and abilities being tenuously or inadequately justified. Such a character is particularly characterized by overly idealized and clichéd mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors. Perhaps the single underlying feature of all characters described as "Mary Sues" is that they are too ostentatious for the audience's taste, or that the author seems to favor the character too highly. The author may seem to push how exceptional and wonderful the "Mary Sue" character is on his or her audience, sometimes leading the audience to dislike or even resent the character fairly quickly; such a character could be described as an "author's pet". "Mary Sues" can be either male or female, but male characters are often dubbed "Gary Stu" or similar names. While the label "Mary Sue" itself originates from a parody of this type of character, most characters labeled "Mary Sues" by readers are not intended by authors as such. Some Quotes... They make shit. Unbelievable, unremarkable shit. Now I'm not some grungy wannabe filmmaker that's searching for existentialism through a haze of bong smoke or something. No, it's easy to pick apart bad acting, short-sighted directing, and a purely moronic stringing together of words that many of the studios term as "prose". No, I'm talking about the lack of realism. Realism; not a pervasive element in today's modern American cinematic vision. Take Dog Day Afternoon, for example. Arguably Pacino's best work, short of Scarface and Godfather Part 1, of course. Masterpiece of directing, easily Lumet's best. The cinematography, the acting, the screenplay, all top-notch. But...they didn't push the envelope. Now what if in Dog Day, Sonny REALLY wanted to get away with it? What if - now here's the tricky part - what if he started killing hostages right away? No mercy, no quarter. "Meet our demands or the pretty blonde in the bellbottoms gets it the back of the head." Bam, splat! What, still no bus? Come on! How many innocent victims splattered across a window would it take to have the city reverse its policy on hostage situations? And this is 1976; there's no CNN, there's no CNBC, there's no internet! Now fast forward to today, present time, same situation. How quickly would the modern media make a frenzy over this? In a matter of hours, it'd be biggest story from Boston to Budapest! Ten hostages die, twenty, thirty; bam bam, right after another, all caught in high-def, computer-enhanced, color corrected. You can practically taste the brain matter. All for what? A bus, a plane? A couple of million dollars that's federally insured? I don't think so. Just a thought. My Fanfiction Challenge List Keep in mind that my challenges are to inspire you to write a creative story (or maybe even a series of stories) and challenge you to write better fan-fiction stories in the present and into the future. The choices in the story are up to you, and specific ones are stated in the parentheses; so that your story will, hopefully, be very original and creative. Guidelines/Rules for all challenges are as follows... 1) It can be any genre, as long as it makes sense. 2) It can be as AU as you want; however, stay as canon as possible to the personalities of the characters in the show, book, etc. 3) You can, but don't have to, use OCs and deceased characters when needed, as long as they don't have Mary Sue-ish personalities (unless it is an intentional part of your story). 4) It can be as long as you want, within reason, as long as you finish the story. 5) If you want slash or femslash in your story, I would perfer if it was implied (got nothing against slash or femslash, it's just if it's not canon or canon-ish, then it doesn't seem to fit "right" in the plot because personalities tend to get altered in ways I don't like). 6) Avoid writing an M rated story, I don't like reading them that often and would like to keep it that way. 7) It can be a cross-over fic; however stay as canon as possible to the personalities of the characters in the show, book, etc. 8) If romance is chosen genre (yes, this includes when romance is in your story and is not chosen as a genre) try to use lesser known relationships in it (remember to it keep the personalities of the characters in the show, book, etc. canon). 9) If you feel like one challenge isn't enough for you or want your story to be more interesting/creative/outside-of-the-box, you may pair up your challenge with another challenge (or two) from my list. 10) If you feel up to using one of my challenges, please credit me and tell me that you are using one of them so I can read your story and have a chance review it.
