Instead of giving you a little update on what I'm doing, so on and so forth, I thought I would give you a little bit of information about myself.
I'm nineteen, and I am currently a Sophomore in college. I'm majoring in English, and minoring in... I'll get back to you on that when I figure out what I want to minor in--Psychology, probably. I love to read, as well, and I am on this site a lot, combing through the vast amounts of reading to find the diamonds in the ruff. Seriously, I don't know how I can keep coming back, but I do.
I enjoy writing romance and humor-based fanfiction, but I have the ability to roam about the genres if I feel like it. Sometimes writing of a racy nature comes into play, but that's because I'm an overly... well, I don't know how to put it without sounding horrible, but you can just use your imaginations.
I am hoping to get a lot more writing done in the future. Maybe even to the point of publishing my own novel, but I'm taking things one day at a time--definitely not jumping the gun on that one. Ideas are floating around, but I definitely don't have enough time to put anything substantial together. Well, not yet at least.
All of my writing is based off of some form of music or is inspired by some form of music. Music is a huge source of inspiration for me, as well as millions of other writers out there; it's pure emotional gold. If you're a writer, I know you agree. Music can evoke emotions that are perfect for a piece you're writing.
My favorite piece of music to write to is "Moonlight Sonata", which is odd but it's full of emotional drive. Sometimes you don't need words to captivate you, you know?
A. LaRosa's "Five Things That Piss Her off about Some Fanfiction.net Authors"
1. "I'm not going to update until I get 20 reviews for this chapter."
Are you guilty for asking this? Why would you demand reviews? Does that make your story any better to demand reviews? Sure, you can hold off updating until you reach a certain goal you had in mind for reviews, but don't force it upon your readers to review when they don't want to. Sure, reviews are like gold here--but, seriously, don't push it. Especially if your writing isn't that much of a skill yet.
2. Did you ever notice that nifty "new" feature that says "reply to review"? Yeah, do that. Having review replies in your chapter goes along with #4, and it really isn't in good taste, in my opinion. It gives the illusion that you're going to have a lot more writing in your chapter when you really don't. That's not good.
3. When you say your story and/or summary sucks, that doesn't make people want to read your work. If you say you're "unhappy" with it, then fine, be unhappy. If you say it just plain sucks, why are you even posting it in the first place?
4. When authors have their author's note be longer than the entire chapter/story. You don't know how annoying it is when, as a reader, you assume that you're about to be reading a lot more than you wind up getting. It's in bad taste, and your readers aren't going to be too happy with you.
5. Finally, even though I've been guilty of doing this once of twice in my day, having entire chapters devoted to author's notes is annoying; especially to your readers who believe that you're posting something entirely new and get excited for no good reason. Plus, when you take up a whole chapter and end it with "thanks guyz" or something equally/horribly written, then I lose all respect for you, since I judge you when you use poor grammar. It's a common phrase that's entirely true.
So, there you have it. I was tired of ranting to certain people. Now it's all collected together! If you're guilty of doing any one of these things, don't take that as I don't like you or anything of the sort. Those are just pet peeves when it comes to things that I've read here on this site.
Update: (09/02/08)
I really hope I'm going to have the time to write, so stick with me on this one. I'll deliver.
