Author has written 20 stories for City of Heroes, Warhammer, Time Machine, Half-Life, Inheritance Cycle, Doctor Who, Twilight, and Movie X-overs. Hello everyone! Yes, it is the fellow from fictionpress.com, here to make people laugh at various piss takes of popular works of fiction, and occasionally read rip roaring adventure stories. I would reccomend reading my comedies (The Adventures of Brom and Jeod and The Fantabulous Team Fortress Adventure) whilst listening to I'll Walk the Line by Johnny Cash. It somehow adds to them. It's easily available on Youtube. About War of the Universes. The first good thing about it is the title. War of the Universes. Conveys a certain sense of carange and devestation, doesn' t it? And, as my (surprisingly) first attempt at 40k fiction, it will have everything. Battles, politics, guns, tau, a crossover, space battles (!) I don't believe that there are many war of the worlds crossovers out there, especially with the book, so this will be a rare thing. I have a certain pedigree with Wells (see Venetian Affair) and with quasi Victorian types (see me in fictionpress.) And I can make a fight scene as good as anyone, I believe. So, why shouldn't you drop by? As a special reward for all you people waiting patiently for an update for the above story (and I really do apologise: I excuse an enormous business with exams, and writing other fics), I am going to massively increase the scale of the next battle scene. Suffice to say that it will be insanely violent, and will be waged by the T'au expeditionary force, the valiant human armies, and the fiendish martians, on land, sea, and air! Yes, air. I'll keep you guessing for that. On Rakarskia: This is a fictional world of my invention which may appear in several fan fictions of mine. It has two incarnations: the fantasy (and far better developed, in my view) version (known as the Steele era), and the steampunk version (the Tchiaskovy era) for sci fi canons. It would suffice to say that I am immensely concieted about my own creation (I intend, eventually, to publish at least one novel in it), but, apart from technological differences, it can be summed rather loosely up as follows. The main nation: The People's Democratic Republic of Rakarskia (even in the fantasy one. Yes, it will be interesting if they meet evil empires OR heroic, tiny kingdoms fighting for freedom. They have reasons to despise both.) Rakarskia is a revolutionary power, under the "elected" (or so the people are led to believe) Electors and Chairman of that nation. The state functions under a form of socialism which, whilst not identical to that of the USSR, would be recognisable to them: the state runs industries and media, and maintains an Inquisition engaged in a constant war against "mages and counter revolutionary enemies of the state." The former, especially, are regarded with immense fear and suspicion by the people of Rakarskia. The media, largely through the "Truths" (newspapers ranging from local sheets to large broadsheets, tabloids, financial pages etc), is patriotic, jingoistic, and a key tool of propaganda (why teach an illiterate peasantry to read if not to strengthen their patriotic fervor, comrade?), although there is a strong tradition of (albiet much restricted) satire stretching back to the pre revolutionary period. Conscription is widely practiced, and is regarded as something of a right of passage: at any rate, factories whose workers have gone on active, military tours of duty and return recieve substantial grants from the state, as well as an excellent public image. The level of magic is non existent (naturally), but Inquisitors utilise a substantial arsenal of anti magical equipment, ranging from shield breaking rounds for pistols and explosives, to protective clothing and massive warding banners (functioning through "Avarite"- an alloy made up of unknown ingredients, but rumoured to include steel and lead.) The Steele era's technology level is around that of England in the 1840s: an impressive industrial power, with trains and factories existing alongside horse drawn carriages and peasant villages, protected by soldiers wielding flint lock muskets and bayonets, supported by sabre wielding cavalry and field cannons. The Tchiaskovy era's technology is fairly steampunk. Factories have expanded massively in order to construct colossal Ether Ships, and the population has greatly expanded. It was this, as much as anything else, that persuaded the Electors that the time had come to spread the light of Muskovism (as they call their ideology, after the grand revolutionary himself) into the cosmos. Motor cars are slowly coming into use, as are a number of other innovations: Land Ironclads, bolt action rifles, and superior field guns for the armed forces, electricity and electronic communications for the masses, and other such devices. Anyhow, that's enough from me. Get reading gents! (And ladies, of course.) In Novermber 2008, there will be no new updates. This is because I am doing the National Novel Writing Month. For those ignorant of this, it is an event when one writes a 50,000 word novel in one month. I am engaging in this. Wish me luck! I'll get a link in to my entry. But don't think that I have neglected this esteemed website. No, I have plans for when I get back: several stories will have chapters, and a whole new one is being planned. (Probably a parody of Vex Master's colossal warhammer 40,000 crossover.) So, it's business as usual... | |||||||||
