A girl who is supposed to be one of my friends kind of loathes me, a couple of other girls are a little distant, and I feel alone. I want my friends back. I don't know what happened. Hence...SSW might be on a brief hiatus for a couple of weeks. Also, I've figured out what I want to do for my start-of-the-year fic. It's called 500 Days and inspired loosely by the movie 500 Days (of Summer) because I love it. It should be...a little AU and interesting. I think you should like it. LISTENING TO: Sparse accoustics. -- What I'm Writing: 10/14: As I continue to muddle through the marshes of junior year, here's what my writing brain is thinking about... She Said What is my current focus. I've poured all my little one-shottish plot bunnies into the outline for that story and I'm super excited with what I've got coming up. Lots of love and lots of sadness. I'm going to be an emotional wreck while tying that one up, but it's so worth it. I love exploring those feelings and bringing you all along for the ride. Otherwise... Other, non-SSW related one-shot ideas are starting to float about in my brain, and if they ever take form, I'll let you know. But for now, I wouldn't expect anything. My head is so full of shit that you'd be surprised. XxX 10/21: I am a cowardly chicken with nothing worth reading. The book needs work and love and time - all things it cannot have right now. But when I come back to it, it'll only be for me. I'm not ready for people to get a look at who I privately am quite yet. Dayyum... 4/6: I found this book that's actually quite good for this sort of thing. Recommended to me by someone I know. My library has yet to get it in, but when they do, I will read it through and think long and hard about what I want to do. You might be seeing a bounce-back. Maybe it's just me being optimistic. I dunno. I have a problem with putting myself out there - FF is easy because no one knows me here, silly gooses! - so if I convince myself to get over that, watch your nearest bookstore. Otherwise...keep looking for me online. I'm still lurking. Kind of. News will come when it's worth hearing. Ho hum... 3/15: I must be insane. Really and truly insane. But, Ashley (solitaireclay07) sent me the Twitter link for an agency and said I should go for it and I decided I would. This is my last query (for the foreseeable future, anyway) and when they reject me, it'll be the last rejection e-mail I'll get for a while. This publishing thing is so frightening. In case you were wondering - no, I didn't talk to my Literary Magainze supervisor. I didn't talk to my friends. I didn't talk to anyone. I don't want to do this, because I don't believe in my book, nor do I want to put myself out there right now. Writing is so personal to me - almost too personal - and allowing people to get a glimpse of my soul and then sending me back generic rejections just doesn't jibe with me. Okay, maybe I'm giving up too soon. Maybe I'm a coward. Maybe I'm a lot of things. You can take your pick. But that doesn't mean I'm doing this. No one honestly wants to hear what I have to say and I know that. It's silly to think someone will pay me to spew my shit all over the place. I'll let you know when the rejection comes in, but I think this is where the Publishing Chronicles end. I just don't want to publish. It doesn't matter anyway. I'll keep writing because I love it, but that doesn't mean people have to see it. Nyah... 2/26: I don't know anymore, to be honest. I don't know if I'm going to do this. I'm still not sure if I want to fight for my book. I'm not even sure people will let me publish because I'm underage. I'm thinking about it a lot, I really am - but it's weird. Some days, I want to do it so, so bad; and other days, I'm like, what's the use? I am considering going to my Literary Magazine Club supervisor about it. She knows me by now (I've been in the club for a year and a half, she'd better) so maybe she has some advice. I don't know. I'm wary about asking her. We'll see though. And, if anything comes up, believe me when I say I will let you know. Blegh... 1/20: The most historically awesome day in American history - the day that people will have in their history textbooks some years from now - and what have I got to show for it? A rejection, so soon after sending the query. And not just that, a totally and utterly generic one. It said "Dear Author" instead of my name. People like that really piss me off...but I really, really, really, really, really want to go to college!! This is way too stressful for me. Quitting is tempting, but medical school is more so. Back to the drawing board, then. Blah... 1/6: Rejected again. Publishing is so overrated. Bah humbug... 12/16: You really have no idea how insulting it can feel to be rejected again, even if you weren't really into it from the beginning. People keep telling me, "You could be famous, you could be famous," but it doesn't feel like it. I want to quit because I'm naturally a quitter, but at the same time, Jo Rowling didn't quit the first seven times when the idiotic publishers rejected our darling Harry. If she had, I wouldn't be writing. So I'm going to keep going. College is a dream I want to achieve and people work a lot harder for it than I do...hence, I'm waiting on six other ladies to get back to me. Then I'll just keep plugging away at this. Eurgh... 12/13: R-E-J-E-C-T-I-O-N, rejection!! Yup. Another agent rejected me today. I have now created a special rejection song for myself to sing every time it happens. Rejection number six! Woot!! I am waiting on seven people now; five I sent to three days ago, two who I sent to before that haven't replied back. I don't expect them to say anything new. That's okay though; the fact of the matter is, most people don't publish, and I do not expect to be an exception to the rule. I'm nothing special and neither is my story; but it's worth a shot because life is for living and I want to get to college one day... Woaw... 12/10: And again, I am REJECTED! God. Four rejections and it hasn't been a month. xD I bet you everything and more that it's my age. Or maybe it's just that my plot-line isn't all that intriguing. I dunno. But hey, maybe all this is a good thing. If someone said they were willing to represent me, I don't know what I'd say. I'd be terrified! But I do want to get into college, so the everlasting struggle continues... Oh and by the way - I sent to 6 agents today because I was like, "Screw it all," and so now I'm waiting on a total of 8 people to get back to me. The website I did my research on says that good news comes fast from an agent and it's usually in phone-call format. I'm watching my phone like a hawk... Still 12/10: OMG! The person I sent to THIS MORNING declined me!! You know, if I didn't want to get into Northwestern so badly, I'd say fuck it all and if they don't want me, I never wanted them particularly to begin with!! With all the shit I've seen out there, I can't help but feel a little offended that they won't take my shit. What's wrong with my shit if they can take other people's shit?! It's very annoying; but you know what, if I want to get into college, I'd better grit my teeth and resend to someone else. Or maybe edit my query letter a little, lol. Gah... 12/2: The person I sent to yesterday rejected me in less than twenty-four hours! I think I'm doomed to a perpetual slush pile...the bad thing about declining agents is that they don't tell you what they dislike about you...it just leaves you thinking you pretty much suck...but in my case, I kinda do, lol, so maybe I shouldn't be so hurt just yet. Being semi-well-known on the Internet has really inflated my ego. Stupid bitchy thing. It needs to come back to earth and realize it's not as great as it thought it was. A couple of people still haven't replied yet. Will they hurry up and reject me already? Lalala... 12/1: I felt like sending my query letter to someone else earlier than planned, even though I didn't get a response from the other two people that I was currently waiting on. I decided to share this with you. It was very nervous-making, but maybe this person will be my Big Break, as they call it in show biz. We'll see. Er... 11/23: Second rejection letter came today! LOL I bet you everything it's my age. That was my query opener, because I want people to know, straight off the bat, that I am a younger author. I think if I took that out, people would take me seriously. xD But I'm not vain. I know it's probably just that my subject matter is way too cliche. My age coupled with that fact probably doesn't do me any good. Maybe I'll stop trying. Maybe I won't. I don't know yet but I don't think I will. Let me make it through my whole list of good agents and we'll see how this goes. At least these people are prompt, lol. Umm... 11/21: It's only been three days and I already got a response for my publishing deal! Don't be too excited. She said no, lol. But hey, I still think it's something that she actually got back to me and told me that -she- would not be the right fit. She said nothing about -me- being a bad candidate. I'm going to email another query to a different agent and see what happens, but maybe I'll strike it lucky. It's doubtful - I told you that already - but the fact that I'm trying and just got my first rejection (part of the writing process) is pretty cool. But on the plus side, I got an A on the Algebra test! I'll keep you posted when I get news. Thanks, guys! Yeah... 11/18: News on the publishing thing... So I discovered that the first query I sent didn't actually go through. I was kind of surprised, but that's what Yahoo told me, so there you go. I'm actually happy it didn't send; I played around a little more with the phrasing and it sounds better, I think. I've found a few really promising agents who seemed totally great and I mailed two of them today. I'm supposed to get an answer within a month or so. I used my tender young age of fifteen as my opener - I don't think they don't get too many queries from teenagers - just because I wanted their attention, so hopefully they'll still read my query and take me seriously!! I'll keep you guys posted on all that jazz, but there won't be much to say. It's all waiting for a response. In two weeks, I'm sending to another really promising agent I liked the sound of and I'm constantly checking my phone/email in case something happens. But don't be too excited - I don't think I'm getting a response. Like I said, I'm fifteen, and honestly, better writers than me take years to get published. What are the odds that I, of all people, am going to get a snappy reply? It's a big, nasty world out there, and I don't want to be hopeful in the least; so let's put this out of our minds and I shall work on writing some more, lol.- But if you care - information will be up on my profile if something happens.
