Naruto and Harry Potter; mostly humor fics, but I usually won't shy away from a good fic. This means competent spelling, grammar, sentence, paragraph, and dialogue structure, and plausibility as it pertains to the canon universe.

Observations and Ramblings

First, if there's one thing I hate, is good ideas being wasted on bad writers. I hate reading a summary for a story, or even the beginning of the story and thinking okay this has potential, and will likely be a great story. And then have that thought thrown back in my face because 1. the author of the story has no concept of grammar, spelling, sentence structure, dialogue progression, etc.; or 2. what should have been a great story is completely ruined because the author ends up turning it into just another cliche fic.

Second, I'd like to admit that I, and everyone who complains about the Harry Potter series, has made a huge mistake. For all of our nagging about how things didn't make sense in quite a few places- which is true- we forgot one glaringly huge point. While admittedly darker than most, Harry Potter is a CHILDREN'S series, and most of the things that we ADULT readers are nagging about are honest mistakes that most CHILDREN would not notice or nit pick at. Sure it gives our cynical asses all kinds of nifty plot devices to explore, but we really should quit griping about the things we didn't like.

That being said, I am an adult, so damn it, I'm going to nitpick. I read a review on ficwad not to long ago that put my feelings on the whole main canon pairings situation into a logical perspective.

Okay that was a great chapter especally with all the Harry/Hermione goodness. Now to the rant, There was nothing between Harry and ginny until sixth year and since you know what was introduced in sixth year I'll leave that alone. But even in your rant it didn't seem like Harry would be with ginny because he loved her but because he loved the idea of family and he already felt like a part of the weasley family so Harry might have the mindset that if he didn't accept ginny he would lose the family. Now you said that there were points in the story that Harry would end up with ginny before sixth year, I would really like it if you pointed that out but as for Harry's type of girl you went to petite and likes quidditch but if you go back it could be said that Harry likes dark hair or exotic women since his first crush was Cho and his first date was Parvati, being able to calm Harry down Hermione has been doing it for years and Luna did it too. The thing is that JKR wanted H/g and r/Hr to happen but didn't reaslise that her characters evolved you look at fifth year again and you will see Harry trying to better himself for Hermione and Hermione made refrences like she and Harry were a couple JKR had to scramble to make excuses to break up Harry and Hermione a book really, and she needed a way to get ron and Hermione together a book, and even then in that sixth year ron did his best to hurt Hermione even using things he knew being her friend that would hurt her the most ron's not five so pulling a girls hair doesn't mean you like her, and no ron didn't grow up with age example I just memory charmed the muggle to get my licence( dangerous driver) no my child better not be a slytherin, you could say that he was joking but there was some truth to it. And the big thing, the fate of the world is on the line so I'm going to run home I'm going to leave my best friend and the girl that I supposedly love, It doesn't matter that he came back he shouldn't have left in the first place. I have a cousin in the military and he hates ron for that simple fact. Now for the Harry Hermione relationship in this story, You put them in a place that no one can touch so a significant other most likely wouldn't be able to handle what they have.

Nar/Hin- This is my favorite couple, and then it's not. While I like reading stories where Naruto is paired with her, sites are so saturated that I only read really good fics with this pairing. I don't like how people make them fall for each other over night; that's why sometimes it's not. I like this couple, because it’s fucking adorable, and the epitome of innocence; that, and for some reason it just feels right. I’ve seen pictures people have drawn of the two as a couple, and they just seem to go together like Naruto and ramen; the perfect compliment. This is my perfect couple, and one I won't hesitate to put in if I can't think of a better one to fit a story.

Nar/fem!Haku- I know the series says that Haku is a guy, but I still have my doubts. First of all, Haku looked and sounded way too feminine. Second, it is possible that s/he used bindings across the chest to conceal the womanly assets, and to give the illusion of a boy. Really, binding an A cup, or even a modest B cup can give the illusion of a male’s chest if done properly people; I know, I‘ve seen it done (friend of mine studies Tae Kwon Do, and she binds a C cup and it just looks like a buff guy‘s chest). Not to mention that Haku’s whole demeanor just screamed ‘I’m a girl’. I’ve also seen the manga version of Haku, and there is no way you’re going to convince me that Haku is a guy; even if s/he said so. In none of the pictures in the manga I’ve seen, has Haku looked even remotely masculine. The kid even looks more feminine than Sakura, and that‘s as girly as you can get at that point.

Nar/Anko- who wouldn’t want a piece of Anko

Nar/Tsunade- guilty pleasure

Nar/girls from Sound- what can I say, Kin is strong and gorgeous (like Ino in part ii), and Tayuya is a bad bitch all around (she’s a strong kunoichi, and she’s hella hot); and just because they are from the Soundvillage, I’d make them screamers

Nar/practically any girl as long as it's written well, but I will admit that it takes a really well written story for me to stay with a Naruto/Sakura fic

Nar/fem!demon or demon container- meh, it works in its own way

Jiraiya/Tsunade- is it me, or do they just ooze UST

Gaara/Hinata- I know this is an unlikely pairing, but they’d be good for each other. She’s seems like the type of girl that can love the unloved.

Iruka/Anko- the nice guy, and the crazy girl can’t miss

Lee/Sakura- only once she’s gotten her head out of her ass, and gives other guys a chance; I also think that someone else would have to take notice of him first for her to take a good look at him

Gai/Shizune- I haven’t the slightest clue why, but this couple seems like it could work. They both have an innocent quality to them (overlooking their extremely violent professions, of course), and would likely compliment each other; she might even be able to help him mellow out. It would be the perfect way for Gai to counter Kakashi's hipness.

Nar/multi or Harem- same statement applies as with Harry, plus these are kinda funny, especially when massive nosebleeds are involved that are comically written, (usually when the girl is someone very sure of their sexuality, and Naruto suffers from a slight case of naivety with the opposite sex)

Orochimaru/Kabuto- Not a fan of yaoi, but who doesn’t see this one coming

Orochimaru/Sasuke- Again, not a fan of yaoi, but wouldn’t it be poetic justice; run away from the girl who loves you, right to a sicko that wants your body (and not just for the jutsu)

Couples not fond of

HP

Harry/Hermione- Mainly because of saturation. I'm ammending my thoughts on this one. I'd rather her be with Harry than Ron.

Harry/Ginny- Mainly because of the saturation, and I like to see things go dif than canon. There's also the fact that I didn't like how sudden Harry's attraction to her was. But I’ll go with it if the story is good. Like Melindaleo’s ‘Power of Emotions’, and the sequel ‘Curse of the Damned’. (Phoenixsong.net)

Harry/Cho- unless it’s believably written

Ron/Hermione- This couple seriously bothers me was Ron/Hermione. I'm still trying to figure out how that one worked. They didn't bicker like an old married couple, they fought like one on the verge of divorce. Not only that, but as much as he went out of his way to hurt her feelings when they did, and then that whole thing with Lavender...come on. Also, going back and rereading GoF, it seems to me that Ron didn't really develop any interest in Hermione until she turned him down for the Yule Ball, and showed up with Viktor turning heads.

The only reason why I still have this listed here, is because of how cliche this couple, and how they get together is becoming.

As far as the whole relationship goes, I'm not really bothered with Harry being with Ginny aymore. What bothers me is how Rowliing made Harry develop a sudden obsession with Ginny, and the gratuitous mention of Amortentia in HBP. If we'd gotten some indication that he was developing an interest in her before he arrived at the Burrow before sixth year, maybe it wouldn't have rubbed me the wrong way so much.

Nar

Nar/Sakura- I honestly believe that Sakura cares for Naruto, but I think it’s more of a general sense, almost like a sister if even that close.

Kakashi/Kurenai- no offense to fanfic writers, but unless she’s with Naruto, Asuma, or an OC, then the pairing just seems too forced, and weird

Gai/nearly anyone- Not that I'm not fond of Gai getting some, it's just hard to picture him in an actual relationship.

My official shipping stance on Naruto

As much as I hate to admit this after nagging about it, the honest truth is that Naruto needed someone like Sakura and Tsunade in his life. Strong women who would knock some sense into him when he was being obtuse. That being said, Sakura is not the girl Naruto should be with, nor is Hinata. Naruto needs a strong woman in his life, someone who'll cuff him if he needs it true, but he also needs a woman with a much less volatile temper than Sakura. Someone who'll explain why she hit him, rather than just slug him and storm off.

As much as I would like for Naruto to be with the former, I honestly don't think Naruto would be a good fit for either Hinata or Sakura. Do I think he should date them, of course I do. I personally think that he should date Hinata first, as a sort of low maintenance, starter girlfriend. Hinata would be the girlfriend where he figured out what the hell he's supposed to do as a boyfriend. She would also be the girlfriend to help get Naruto out of that thought that Sakura is the one.

After that relationship runs its course, and I'm fairly sure that the split would be amicable, I'd suggest that he date Sakura. Dating Sakura would give Naruto a chance to date a girl whose somewhat high maintenance, a girl with a lot of unreal expectations in a boyfriend. This would also allow whatever there is between them to ignite and then fizzle out. Now this break up might not be as easy as the one with Hinata, but I think eventually they'll get past it, and be closer for it.

As far as Naruto's future wife is concerned...I can't realistically see it being a woman from Konoha. Naruto needs a strong woman to knock him around every now and then, but not someone whose going to be abusive, whether emotionally, physically, or otherwise. Given the fact they've known him, the ease with which a girl from Konoha could do so is kind of high, even if unintentional. The girls I see being good for Naruto are Temari (to an extent), Anko (despite the age difference, they have similar backgrounds and overcome circumstances, and they'd understand each other), or Shizuka from Nadeshiko village (Shippouden filler girl).

Female- Temari (she’s like a female Gaara, just not as homicidal), Kurenai (I love her eyes, period; and can you imagine all the kinky shit you can get into with a Genjutsu Mistress), Anko (nuff said), Tsunade (What can I say, I’m a breast man), Tayuya (she kicks ass, and she’s hot), Kin (to quote her, she was a deadly kunoichi, without having to sacrifice her looks; just like the women that precede her in this list) while not one of my favorite characters, I do like Hinata (I mean really, how can you not like someone that adorable?)
