Author has written 22 stories for Jak and Daxter, Super Smash Brothers, and Rurouni Kenshin. UPDATES: Hope everyone is having a safe Friday the Thirteenth (that is, aside from the bouts of bad luck). I apologize that I haven't been online these past few months...Got a small case of Writer's Block, as well as been straying away from RuroKen these past few weeks. The Nickelodeon bug bit me hard, sadly...I've been watching quite a lot of Avatar and Danny Phantom, more so on the latter: I even started looking up fanart for it, and re-watching episodes, both of which I haven't done in a few years, heh. So if some DP stories start appearing on my profile, there's the reason...Still, I haven't given up on Watsuki's work! There's a little tale still sitting warm in my laptop. I've been tweaking it every now and again. May submit that in a few weeks, give or take... AES November 13 Signed up on Friday the Thirteenth. Favorite Quotes: "Heroes think they can save the world, when they themselves are lost." -Seem, Jak 3 "Oh look, the grease monkeys are busy putting their toy cars together, so that I can take them apart!" -Razer, Jak X "If you moved that fast a long time ago, I'd still be wearing pants! You know what I really miss? Soft underpants. You know how it lifts and cradles...? (Smacks lips and scratches butt) You'd never understand... We're outta here!" -Daxter, Jak 3 "I...AM...INVINCIBLE!"-Razer, Jak X "Sorry guys, but I've got a date with the finish line!" Jak, Jak X "I say, never trust a dead man."-Sig, Jak X Jak: "Where would you be without me, Dax?" Daxter: "Well Jak, I probably wouldn't be two feet tall, fuzzy and running around in a sewer without a pair of pants!...God, I miss pants." -Jak and Daxter, Jak 2: Renegade "We are the arms or the Prophets... (shows sword-blade thingy) ...And you are blade, Arbiter." - A random quote found on my Math class board. (Seriously. If anyone who reads this can tell me who wrote/spoke this sentence, I'll be very happy! I think its a line from one of the Halo games, though. Might be wrong, of course...) "A legend doesn't just kill... a legend dominates."- Ending quote to an Adventure Quest video I watched that my freind made. "Reppression breeds reistance; Negative create positive"- Dave Cruiz, a spokeperson that came and made a speech about how important education is during Intercession Week at our school. "It takes 42 muscles to frown, 28 to smile, and only 4 to reach out and slap someone."-Quote found on a friend's AIM profile. "Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up a whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life... You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' or 'how very perceptive' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. Nothing should be able to do that. Especially not love. I hate love."- Neil Gaiman Advice For Writers 1) First off, you shouldn't beg people for reviews/comments. It takes out the enjoyment of reading the entire story, and as a reader, this, in turn, makes them feel pressured to do so. As useful a result this may be, people will eventually grow tired of this and refuse to leave a comment. Just because you don't get reviews, doesn't mean you should stop writing or that your story is popular. Fanfiction is written for pleasure, not to make money off of. If you only write for popularity, then you aren't writing at all: You're just in the art of writing to become famous, and that isn't how writing works. Writing is a result of an author's creativity, hard work, and time...Lots of it. Don't get discouraged if you don't recieve a lot of comments. Just be patient. In turn, reviewers, when adding a comment, please do not include the following phrase: "Don't worry. Great stories don't get a lot of reviews, while many stories with stupid plotlines or crazy characters in them get truckloads." (Or any derivation thereof.) As encouraging as that may be to the person whose story you're reading, it is also quite insulting to other authors out there on the Net, who've put a considerable amount of time and effort improving their own stories. Threatening or spitting insults at other author's precious work will not promote your own situation. You can't force anyone to like your story, you can only share your work with the world, and hope that they'll accept it. Bashing will only make an already neutral predicament turn into a bad one. (Hence, flamers, your presence isn't welcomed online. With all due respect, get off.) 2) Before submitting anything onto the Internet, look over your writing and edit anything you feel is out of place, whether it's grammar/spelling mistakes, punctuation, plotholes or anything of the sort. If you don't have time to proofread your work, ask for a beta reader. There are plenty of other authors around who'd be willing to correct your work and fix a few errors in a story. 3) Before tackling a story, get a feel of the characters you've included in the plot. Many in-canon characters become twisted or drastically altered in the hands on inexperienced writers, which can turn readers off imediately. If possible, I'd recommend watching character-centric clips/episodes or if you're writing about a novel, re-read scenes featuring the character. Study their reactions in that particular moment: How did they feel during that instant? Why did they act the way they did? (For this question, carefully analyze not only the character, but also their surroundings/minor characters, if any are included. This may provide some hint as to why the character you're studying is acting the way he/she did). If you have any time, jot down some notes or even scribble down a little character study. This will help you connect with the character a little more, and in turn, enable you to put them in a situation you want and portray their actions/reactions/personality correctly. Of course, OCs are an exception for this rule. Not AUs, though: Even if they are in modern times, the past, or the far, far, future, the characters still need to act appropriately. 4) Never give up or stop writing! Writing is not only an art. It's a process that requires years to adapt. Everyone has their own style: You just need to figure out how you write. Inspiration is a good thing. If you're inspired by anything, try to build off of that and create something of your own. 5) BE ORIGINAL! Never, ever copy someone else's work. You can take an idea, give it a creative twist and construct a plot around it. Better yet, you can come up with something that no one else has created before, and write a little tale around that. But taking someone's work, posting it on your profile and calling it your own is wrong: For one thing, it won't help you improve your own skills as an author, despite how many reviews you may get. Stick with what you have, and you'll go far...or at least gain a step forward. OC Profiles Name: Selik Name: Zephyr Name: Terence | |||||||
