Reviews - please leave them. I'm kinda neurotic about things, so I want to make sure that what I'm doing is good and right and all that. Reviews, I think, are very helpful. And they don't have to be sunshine and rainbows. Tell me what I should do to improve, weaknesses, etc. With that said, I'd like to put up a few links to a few of my favorite authors whose stories deserve more attention and readership than they are currently getting. I hope I can help them bring some traffic over to their work. Stella8h8chang Stella's my current beta, and my absolute favorite writer of Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald stories. What can you expect when you read her stories? Her current WIP, Time Loves to Fly: Tempus Amat Volare is an intriguing exploration of Albus' years at Hogwarts, told from the point of view of several OCs, each with very distinctive character development. There is mystery--who is Headmaster McValley, and what are his motivations at Hogwarts? Is he seeking to alienate the students in order to elevate the House of Salazar Slytherin? Who is the mysterious Gellert Grindelwald, and what does he seek from Albus? Friendship? Sex? Or something more? It's a story filled with in-depth characterization (and one of the better depictions of Albus discovering his own sexual identity) and a healthy dose of cultural color, as stella weaves in Blake, Marvell, and Muggle opera with her always poetic writing. If you're in the mood for something dark and frightening, check out Danse Macabre, featuring young Bellatrix Lestrange, teenage Bellatrix Lestrange, and Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange. Stella writes her as fully embracing her dark side and she dives into evil with a heart full of love for Lord Voldemort and a sense of lustful duty to Rodolphus. Bella is twisted and evil and an absolute delight to read in this piece. Respitechristopher Christopher's assisted me on a few of my one-shots and on my larger works, and has given me invaluable suggestions and ideas that I've incorporated into my own works. My favorite work from him is the Harry/Tonks' piece, Summer of '96. When you read this, expect some rather cheeky banter between the Auror and the Chosen One. Christopher has given Tonks (Don't-Call-Her-Nymphadora!) such a lovely spirit and strength that was missing in canon since Book Five. And she brings out a nice sense of humor and playfulness out of Harry. It's one of those unusual 'ships, but Christopher makes it work. His current project, The Mercury Chronicles, focuses on the Next Generation, with the most distinctive and unique characterizations of Albus, Rose and Scorpius that I've seen so far. They form the "Mercurial Trio", arranging PR events to shape their reputation independent of their famous parents, get into loads of trouble without getting caught, and snark on just about everything and everybody that stands to get in their way. Each chapter can be read in no particular order, but each chapter provides enough laughs and "aw" moments for this particular trio. Christopher has a delightful ear for dialogue and humor as well as creating some very unique teenagers that add and augment the Harry Potter Universe. Sara Winters What happens when you're a die-hard Ron and Hermione shipper and you meet a Harry and Hermione shipper? Well, a couple of years ago, it would've been "The Jets v. The Sharks" all over again, right? Sara's proved to me that to write a brilliant (and oft times, rather provocative) Harry and Hermione romance, a writer does not have to bastardize Ron's character, or bend him completely out of shape until he's virtually unrecognizable. Her stories, Free Will and Fate and Marked, both present a different take on the Time-Traveling/Neville Longbottom is the BWL plot device, but she finds ways to change things around, to breathe new life into it. She manages to create a very complex character in Lily, Harry's mum, who survived, and she writes an AU-ish version of Hermione who falls in love with our (always chaste) Chosen One. Her Harry, though, is canonical, but she gives him life as a real teenage boy and makes it very believable that he would fall in love with our favorite bushy haired Gryffindor. Also, if you're into smut, check out her outtake, Closer, which takes place during "Free Will and Fate". JJ Rust For me, a sucker for action stories, pop culture references, and well-written OCs, JJ Rust's works score a home-run. His main OC is Jimmy O'Bannon, a real All-American athletic bloke from Salem, MA. We first meet Jimmy as a Hogwarts exchange student in The Puck Stops Here, where he manages not only to teach some of our favorite HP characters ice hockey, but he does so in a way that JKR herself would be proud of. The bigger work, Air of Disharmony takes place in America as Jimmy and his friends seek to stop a Death Eater invasion in America, with very entertaining results. Rust's strength is characterization and his smashing plots, often writing crossovers such as The Airwaves War where he manages to write not only the HPverse well, but Supernatural, South Park, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Plus, he is one of the best Luna Lovegood writers I've ever read: see The Luna Effect and Family Reunion. Rust is also a Red Sox fan, and any writer who can convincingly combine the Sox, Yankee-hate, and Luna Lovegood's "Luna-ness" into a great one-shot really deserves some props, as he does in Luna's Fenway Day.
