Notes from the world of Meeerf: Meeerf is in...semi-retirement.

Basically, I've had a blast. But, reality (RL in fanfic speak) is calling, in a big way. I have lots of good things happening, and am getting involved with other things inspiring to me... and am looking for new avenues of expression. Not that I haven't enjoyed my time here, but... forward, forward I go!

I will still be checking my email for reviews/alerts/general love, though perhaps not as frequently as before. Thanks to all who have read and enjoyed my scribblings!

For those curious souls who are checking out my profile:

Gender of Meeerf: Female. Passing resemblances to Gwyneth Paltrow and Lise of Rolante.

Home of Meeerf: San Francisco, CA, the best city in the world

Occupations of Meeerf: Mad scientist, iron chef, homeschooled sommelier, aspiring dominatrix, tech nerd, and unapologetic party girl

Age of Meeerf: Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway

Life Philosophy of Meeerf: Life is a big joke, but not everyone is in on it...

How Meeerf absorbs her free time: She eats cookies and quietly plots to take over the world from her laptop. Also lots of clubbing.

Icon of Meeerf: There's a Facebook application that will make you into an anime character... that's where I got this. I'm liking it right now ;)

What Meeerf is doing on this site: Mostly indulging her love of Seiken Densetsu.

What does Meeerf mean? Nothing, but it's fun to say. MEEEEERF!

Informational Section About Fics, With Possibility of Off-the-Cuff Ranting

Meeerfage: My oneshots are usually whims written just for fun; my multi-chapter fics are usually epic-style. The adventure aspects are usually a minor part. I focus on characters and their internal/interpersonal conflicts and struggles, I have a heavy mythology overriding it all that is rooted in history, philosophy, and science, and my stories have a fairly high sexual quotient. I like to look for angles that haven't been taken before.

"Dark" is probably the simplest description of my stuff, but more accurately, my goal is to be balanced and realistic. Things may or may not be resolved, the ending may be a little bittersweet, and no one gets completely pure motivations in my world past the age of, say, twelve. If you want an easy, fluffy read... you probably won't like what I do.

I also don't believe in spoon-feeding readers. What do I mean by that? The best fantasy series get you thinking, trying to unravel the mysteries and questions of the story. So in my stories, there ARE things that are implied but never spelled out directly, left open-ended, and occasionally I will lead you in the wrong direction. As a reader, I like a story that keeps me thinking.

I don't write in a linear way - in other words, I don't go one chapter at a time, I kind of work on everything at once. I also feel strongly that once a story is posted, an author has a sort of moral obligation to finish it - it's just not fair to the readers otherwise. What does that mean for you? It means that if I START posting it, I will FINISH posting it, unless there is some sort of extenuating circumstance, like nuclear armageddon.

Reflective Essay on Fanfic Experiences: I'm more or less done with this creative sector, but for aspiring writers, I'll leave you with a few tips and bits o' sage advice.

1. Are you writing more "fan" or "fiction"? Two different things. I prefer to write and read the latter. Decide what your agenda is... if you're writing to oneshot your OTP or whatever, that's fine, but if you're into the experience to learn more about writing as an art, keep reading.

2. Commitment: MAJOR PERSONAL PEEVE. Yes, reviews are cool and great and encouraging, but if you really want to create... ultimately, it's all about YOU. That's the nature of art. Whenever I see someone say they will only continue if they receive the necessary reviews... I probably won't keep reading, because that tells me they are not committed to the story. And too many things on this site are left unfinished.

3. Conversation: Make friends! If you want others to review your work, review theirs! It's only fair ;)

4. Don't be afraid to write crap. We all have to start somewhere. I'm pretty proud of my earlier stuff (Dark and Light), but still, I see progression and improvement. That's the POINT.

5. Don't ever say you suck! People might believe you! (Valid advice for the real world, as well.)
