My thoughts on characters and parings:

First off one thing I dislike is bashing of characters unless they're bad guys or if it needed for the plot. With parings while I do have my own opinions about them I do support canon, in these world that we write in the original authors are GOD, these are their worlds not ours. But I do have my favorites. (Harry Potter) HHr, (Naruto) NaruSaku, (Ranma) RaAk

Sakura (Naruto)Ok I have to admit that in the beginning yes she acted like a brat, then again she was what 11 or 12. But over time she became a better person, and a person would you would want to watch your back. I look at it the first few arcs to find the turning points in the characters, hers was during the chunin arc when her cut her hair and decided to for once to take her lifer seriously as a ninja. Particularly with the latest chapters of the manga, still it might take a clue stick to get both of them to finally get together.

Simply I like Sakura as a character and as a romantic interest for Naruto

Naruto: He is one of my favorite characters in anime, the whole idea that he lives up to the ideals of Scouting. He seems to have plenty of turning points, the first being during the Wave arc when he found is ninja way.

Ninja ranks in comparison to modern military ranks:
Genin: would the equivalent to E-1 to E-3, Private to PFC (army) or Lance Corporals (Marines)
Chunin: would be the NCOs E-4 to E-6, Corporal to Staff Sergeant (army) or Gunnery Sergeant (Marines)
Special Jonin: due to the fact that they are specialist they would not be in the command slots for the SNCOs E-7 to E-8, depending on seniority they may also be the equivalent of a Warrant Officer
Jonin: are officers even though Jonin instructor could be considered non-com due to the fact that they are leading a team size element.
Kage: They are General/Flag officers
ANBU: while not a rank they would be of course the equivalent of the Special Forces
Hunter Nin: Again like ANBU are not a rank, but are instead a specialty, which would probably put them in the specialists SNCO ranks, or WO
