I've been gone for quite a while... a very long while. I currently have two writing projects as far as fanfiction goes.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
This story is my interpretation of Harry Potter excluding the final two books. As an ending to the story, I didn't have too much against them... I just felt that they didn't measure up to the first five books. The ending did not justify the build up. Perhaps it's infinitely arrogant of me to level such a criticism and then procede to write my own version, but I don't do it out of arrogance. I don't even know or think that my version will be any better than what was written by JKR. What I do think is that there is a lot of room for exploration of ideas beyond Harry's 5th year. And that's exactly what I intend to do.
Two Halves; Twice Shy; One Whole
Two Halves was a Naruto fanfic written by an author named DameWren. She completed it in mid 2005, and had intended it to be the first of a trilogy. It's perhaps the best single fanfic I have ever read as far as character development and pacing. And for this reason it saddens me greatly that she decided to stop writing fanfiction only three chapters in to Twice Shy, (part two of the series).
I originally didn't intend to write any sort of continuation or interpretation because I was sure that such an excellent story would be picked up by someone some time. But, two and a half years later, no one has done a completion of the series, or even the second story, Twice Shy. I think a lot of this has to do with perceived pressure. Fortunately, I haven't seen anyone attempt to continue the story and procede to murder it, however I've seen a few attempt then just stop.
But this story truly deserves to be finished. It is my understanding that DameWren left fanfiction because she was not satisfied with the work, and because she wanted to make her own stories and publish them. However she stated several times that she was open to someone else finishing the story. After two and a half years of waiting, I am going to give my own version of the story. My writing style is a little less chatty than Wren's but I think I can do it justice.
Finally, I'd like to mention something: I have one incomplete Digimon story in my profile right now. I will not be completing it. It is not remotely representative of my ability nor will to write at this point... I wasn't even out of High School when I stopped it... I leave them in my profile solely because I know some out there appreciate them despite the TERRIBLE writing they are.
