Q: Who are we? A: See our LiveJournal. However, we dislike bad slash in the Outsiders fandom, and we feel it incumbent on ourselves, Sisyphean the task may be, to state what we see is wrong with any particular piece of fan fiction that is particularly egregious in committing offences against ordinary, straightforward common sense. Examples, you say? Consider the likelihood of a 14-year-old boy in a fairly conservative state, "coming out" as gay in the 1960s. We believe you would, in this instance, actually have better odds on a lottery ticket. Go get a Powerball or 6/49 today, folks. The point is, it wasn't likely that Ponyboy would just bounce up and announce this to the whole world without a ton of very nasty ramifications resulting from this. Yet, we have seen fics that defy this basic principle of common sense. The major problem with implausible slash such as the above, is not only is it implausible, it more often than not is also written with an eye to committing as many offences against the English language as appear to be humanly possible in a single chapter or story. We think we need not cite examples. | |||||||
