Tips for Aspiring Writers:

Basics:

Ideas: It’s a basic necessity if you want to write a story, novel or just something to pass the time that has a chance of not causing critics to gag. An idea can begin anywhere; a dream, daydream, funny conversation, everyday happenings or when you read someone else’s book.

Plots: Now that you have an idea, can you expand on it? Can you really see anything that might be eye catching happening with that idea? Try to twist and turns how the story might end up, throw in ups and downs that people aren’t expecting; that usually keeps them hanging on.

Characters: Well, you can dream up any character you want but you might want to see that they are not plaguing the story with impossible feats and mentioned in just about every other sentence. That usually points to “Mary Sue/Gary Stu”-ish characters that will just tire people out. A character’s weaknesses and strengths are what make a story, it causes interesting questions to come about but don’t make it so that they are completely ridden by weaknesses. It’s a matter of balancing them out to make a realistic character.

Visualizing: I mention this quite a lot; the whole “think of a movie” or “Imagine your self there” type advice I give when details are lacking and making the story go BLEH-BLAH BLAH BLAH! Readers typically like details, it makes them feel as if they can see, feel, smell, touch and taste everything that is happening. Details are what, literally, make a story appear and unravel in your head. If you don’t have enough then it will all just be dialogue with names attached to the end. Try and see yourself in your characters place, what would they you do if you were in a position like that, and now replace yourself with your character, what would they do? Which brings me to my next point.

In Character/Analyzing Your Character: This is the problem with most people it seems. They have only a loose idea of what their character is, how they act and this is how writer’s block arises. The protagonist(s) and antagonist(s) in your story, you should know them like the back of your hand. A good bit of my penpals here on FF take our time to analyze our characters from every which vantage point possible, we play with the idea of this happening, of that, of how a character death would effect them, of how a life of parenting, of assassins: all this (what would seem as pointless assumptions) helps you build your characters personality and mannerisms. If you can come up with a situation and immediately see your character reacting a certain way then your on the right path because that means that you either know your character or are seriously spontaneous today.

Genres:

Horror: This one I get questions from a lot because of my “Murderous Intent” story. To get that ominous yet vicious aura that everyone seems to be turning to nowadays, you simply have to watch your favorite horror movie or book. Once more, I refer to my Visualizing tip and say that you have to see every bloody move, every psychotic thought, as if they were your own. And don’t be blatant with “Blood on the ground” try “bile raising scarlet painted the grass” it gives you more imagery and can literally make your reader imagine the gruesome scene.

Romance: This is a growing trend amongst most people. This day and age, men are starting to open up to romance stories since they are beginning to have more of an appeal to them, what with it being intertwined with action and Science Fiction. But it all depends on whose is the one you want to convey. Women typically are the romantics of both the realistic world and fictional no matter how hard we try and disown that particular fact. So, when a female character is with a male character, nine out of ten times they will begin flirting unintentionally, giggling just a bit more, coy smiles, and tingeing pink. Most of us have gone through this or can at least imagine what it would be like, just make one of your fantasies come to life with details or write one of your experiences with a bit of gushy magic lining it. Males are just as iffy about romance as us when it comes to real life. But in the fictional world, it all depends if you want a cliché bad boy, chivalrous gentle-guy or a goofy man that is overall likeable. Romance is a matter of knowing what would be In Character for someone. Would it be hot a sweaty after one day or one year? Would they be an item? It all just depends.

Mystery: Now this is more of my forte. When dealing with Mystery, you want to make sure that you are throwing curveballs, astonishing revelations, and if you really want to make it complicated; try a battle of the minds. I refer to Tsugumi Ohba for anything of the like. He gives interesting explanations and sometimes gives you evidence that might throw you for a loop. That’s what you want. Something that will make your reader say “HUH?!” but in a good way. I typically enjoy confusing people. However, the going rumor is that you have to be” super-smart” to write anything that is remotely like a battle of the minds. I take that as a compliment though I am sure others will take it as a severe blow to their ego. The truth: the only thing you need to write a convincing mystery is an organizing chart, writing tool of choice, and perhaps a dictionary. Your goal: to cause readers to actually think and stimulate their minds. Just don’t give it away with clues or put in pointless information.

Grammar and Everyone’s Other Nightmares:

Okay people, stop with the glaring and put away the pitchforks. I am not going to tell you to go back to kindergarten and learn all of your English classes over again. In fact, though I might be a grammar nazi as one of my friends so kindly christened me, I will just give you everything you need with some tips.

Spelling: Okay, spell check takes care of that, on to the next point.

Descriptive language: Metaphors, Similes, idioms, personification takes care of that. If you don’t know what those are, please refer to your dictionary.

Sentence Structure: Add variety. Use punctuation to your advantage and add things that are pleasing to the eye like semicolons, hyphens and such.

Fluidity: This, seems to be an on going problem. I see it in a lot of books too. The whole choppy sentences that make anyone think, “This person has the mindset of an imbecilic third grader.” (Not necessarily in that form, I just tend to speak how I write.) Seg-ways, transition words and making one sentence lead into the other. I don’t want to read “My dog’s name is Charlie. Charlie chases cats. Cats hate him because he chases them,” do you?

Lorelei Judith Mason is the adorable younger twin of Mister Edward Anthony Mason Cullen. And she has been shipped off by the Volturi to the Cullens for her lack of cooperation. So now, this little girl is coming to Forks to claim her spot as the most rambunctious and mischievous of the Cullens. Poor Cullens have to deal with Rory and a clumsy human whom can't stand on level ground. Plus: Carlisle is shipping them off toa boarding school. I known, "WHAT?!"

Murderous Intent: PAUSED

A girl has been trapped in Orochimaru's lair for a very long time. In her past she was experimented on and only agreed to do missions for the infamous snake sannin so that he would let her release some fury and such. Known as Death (Kira, Shikyo, take your pick it all means the same thing) across all the countries, both Elemental and not. Now Sasuke must work with her, will he survive her Murderous Intent towards mankind? Or is all hope lost for one of the last surviving Uchiha.

Mayhem and Bella Go Hand in Hand: IN PROGRESS

"Why? Why would they come right before my wedding? Who are these people? Why is Edward looking at her like that? My bad luck strikes again..." The Volturi come looking for Bella so the Cullens seek out the only supernatural family out there who has battled against them and had the slightest chance of actually winning.

Look past all of her quirks, quarks and mannerisms and you find a pure heart, untouched by the vulgarisms of the world, the tainted society but more willing to keep her walls up than let them fall. One day, she is saved fomr her purgatory of seven years, by one Quillish Wammy and a junior Detective girl. They take her away from her native country of China and away to Winchester, England, United Kingdom. There she meets L. A boy who she studies every time she can, seeing he acts more odd than the other humans. What will happen to them as the years pass? Will a girl who does not even know or can comprehend what "Love" is find herself falling for our favorite detective? Will the infamous L fall for the Mimick named "Lovable fierce strength?"
