Author has written 6 stories for G. I. Joe. Update #2: At the risk of making this a de facto Twitter feed, NaNoWriMo is now over, as it is only a month long (hence the name). What does this mean? That I'm beta reading again. Update: I'm taking November off to participate in National Novel Writing Month! It's not like I've been on here a lot recently anyway, but at least now you know why. Since you're on my profile page, I assume you know what my name is. Besides being a fanfic writer, I'm also a Christian, a nerd, an avid fan of the color green, and a musician. Now I'm also going to be a narcissist and believe you enjoyed finding out all about me. You've probably noticed that I write for GI Joe, and that I lurk in both the cartoons and movie archives. I do have some stories down below, and you're more than welcome to read and critique them. I'm on this site to get some constructive criticism about my writing, because some day I want to actually be good at it. Speaking of criticism...I give constructive criticism. While my criticism may not always stroke your ego, I'm not just flaming people because I can. I give constructive criticism for two reasons: first, because this site is meant to help improve your writing; second, because I review what I read, and I'm not a liar. And now, some direct responses to the issues I criticize most often: 1. Mary Sues: I can't stand them, but I acknowledge that they're a stage in learning to become a good writer. So, when I tell you that your precious OFC is a Mary Sue, it doesn't mean I think you're a bad person, or that you'll never become a good writer. It means that your OFC is an idealized character who warps canon. I know it sounds bad, but it actually isn't that hard to fix. 2. Grammar: Yes, it is important. Grammar and spelling are what make the English language readable for everyone. English spelling was standardized around the 15th Century, so it's not like this is a new thing. If you don't want to/don't feel confident in your own spelling and grammar abilities/have been buried in ice since the High Renaissance, then I suggest you get a beta. 3. Out-of-Canon Characters: Admittedly, this is a bit less set than I would like it to be, especially in the movie universe. However, when your character seems unrealistic, I'm going to call you on it. It's not because I'm evil, or trying to bring you down. It just means that your interpretation of the character seems very, very odd to me. I'm more than willing to discuss it with you. And, to any and all who I've critiqued, I would be happy to discuss my review. Please feel free to PM. | |||||||||
