Author has written 19 stories for Ninja Turtles. My name is Sarah, and it should come as no surprise that I grew up loving TMNT. Donatello was my favorite when I was a kid, though I now lean more toward a certain younger brother of his ;). I'm sure it's because I was able to identify with Donny more than the others. Kinda different, maybe doesn't fit in as well - definitely thinks too much. Most my early stuff has him in a leading role, a trend that I didn't buck until I got to "Buried", which ended up being my first "Raph-Centric" fic. That being said, especially after I got through "Of Hope and New Faces" and "Broken", I started trying to balance things out more with the brothers, and giving them each their turns leading fics. A friend of mine on Fanfiction asked me if I had a name for my (long-running) series of stories. The fics have spanned such a great distance and seen so many changes in our heroes lives, that it was an overwhelming thought to try and sum up the entire series in a simple title. It got me thinking about why, at 30 years old, I’m sitting here writing about Ninja Turtles, who by my calculations aren’t even teenagers any more. It would be easy to say that I’ve gotten addicted to the intrigue, the cliff-hangers, and generally making people crazy, but that doesn’t tell the story of why I started writing fan fiction to begin with. When I was writing “Of Hope and New Faces”, I didn’t know what I was doing. I was simply relaying a story of a turtle I felt I had things in common with, and his relationships with those surrounding him. Some were good…some a little rocky at times. But through all the misunderstandings, spats, and trials, there is one unshakeable quality that the Hamato Clan exudes: loyalty. It’s the trait that remains consistent, no matter how dark things have gotten, and it’s the reason that I love these turtles so much. In addition to loyalty, the other word that immediately came to mind when I considered the grand scheme was “legacy”. Webster tells us that a legacy is “something that is transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past”. The boys received just such a legacy from Splinter in the way they were raised, and the honor that he instilled in each of them. At the same time, it's not enough to stop there. I’ve heard it said that the legacy you leave, is the life you lead. It encompasses the past, present, and the future. It also stems from the idea that everyone, no matter their race, age, or station in life, has the power to make a difference, and leave the world a better place than they found it. I’ve “watched” the boys grow and develop through my experience of writing them, and the fantastic story-telling of others on Fan Fiction. Whether it’s with Splinter by their side or being forced to take the lead in their own lives, the small decisions they make every night to stand up for someone else denotes a legacy of their own. As cheesy as it may sound, “A Legacy of Loyalty” suits this collection of stories, better than anything else could in my mind, and it’s the name I’ve settled on for the series. I have started creating a Facebook page specifically dedicated to my stories and their original characters. If you've ever wondered what my characters look like, or where a certain one came from, this is the page for you. Not only did I locate photos to represent all of my OC's, I also searched out a few more of my villains. Do a search for "Legacy of Loyalty" on Facebook if you're curious. I'm currently working on a series of drabbles related to love and relationships. There are a couple of other things on the backburner too...but more on that later. Thank you for reading, reviwing, encouraging and supporting me. Whether you've been with me for years, or I've only met you recently, I appreciate you all. | |||||||||
