Someone else did this in their profile, and I think it's a good idea. I'm going to list the flaws in my writing,as well as what annoys me about other fics. Here are five:
1. Chat room stuff is fun every once in a while. But no way is the entire flock getting in the same chat room at once. They only have one laptop. Even if they go to a library or something, they'll be within arm's distance of each other. Might as well talk with words for god's sake. except for fang, who doesn't talk. And the "Fang and Max talking about their feelings online w/o realizing who they're talking to" cliche is overused. With usernames like "Quiet&Hawt" and "FlyForeverFree" makes is so obvious who they are. I'd like to think Fang and Max could figure that out, seeing as they are not that stupid.
2. A problem of mine: not enough description. I try, but I also fail. Dialogue can dominate. Helpful for the plot, but it's nice to know where this is all taking place.
3. OC's can dominate as well. Working on that for my own fics now. I love my OC's. I think they're amazing. But I don't want the fic to center around them. Something I need to work on.
4. The function of the summary is to grab the attention of potential readers. To pique their interest. Writing "my summarys suck" does not pique my interest. Summarys are not that difficult.
5. Fang and Max have kids a lot in other fics. Fine. But this creates an OC, which causes most Fax children evolve into Mary Sues, meaning they are perfect kids with amazing superpowers and usually are the spitting image of either Fang or Max. I tried to go against this with my one-shot Flawed, which is about such an OC, minus the Mary Sue part.
6. Twilight.MR crossovers. Why does every make Fang so accident prone? He always ends up injured or something, and Edward or another Cullen happens to come across him. Then it's "Hey, my dad's a doctor, come on in!" Used tons, so I refuse to use it myself.
About my fics:
The Lost School: First Fic. I think it was pretty sucessful. Did a pretty good job. OC's not too dominating. Pretty happy with it. Made up my own new hybrids and villians, that weren't that generic. New powers that I have yet to see in someone else fic, but of course that can be tested. Overall, I am pretty pleased with this.
The Neck Breaker: I lost it with this fic. I need to finish it, but I lack inspiration. So, it's on break.
INsangel: I really like how this one is going. No OC's (yes!). It's an AU, and I have been doing a good job explaining the enviroment, which is vital in a AU, for obvious reasons. I also like how I don't own the plot or the characters, so there is no danger of writer's block. ON BREAK UNTIL A & V is FINISHED!
Flawed: First One-shot, but has potential for full-fledged fic. I think this story is very prone to writer's block if I do expand on it. I semi-borrowed the character from my other fics. I like the voice in it. It's a monologue pretty much, so there is no big scenes or action or whatever.
Angels and Vampires: A twilight/MR crossover. I totally stopped all other stories to start this. Breaking Dawn is coming out in August, and I just had to do a crossover. People like this one alot, and I know where it's going. I wanted to make a different Twi/MR crossover than the rest. Does this sound familiar? "Fang is injured and the cullens need to help!" Well, I didn't want it to be like that. I also think that the werewolves are barely in any of these crossovers. So I exclusivly put them in mine.
