Author has written 24 stories for Twilight, and Fullmetal Alchemist. I’m a final year university student, constantly broke, drinking, tired and stressed. I pray for graduation, yet I am still applying for an MA. I apparently like to torture myself. I like lace, dark chocolate, leather boots with heels that can do damage, an odd array of musical artists and cosmetics I can’t afford. I obsessively pour over volumes of Calvino, Angela Carter, and Carol Ann Duffy. I have an odd obsession with fairytales. I’m an exercise and caffeine junkie. I dislike drinking tap water and spend more time in my head than reality. I write because I enjoy it, and have things I feel I need to share. I don’t like arrogance, and am picky with what fan fiction I read. Individuality is important in writing. I’m concentrating on “Eye Contact” for now, as my writing time has been severely limited. FAQ’s You seem to know an awful lot about ASD. Do you or any of your family and friends have any form of ASD? Do you work with anyone who has ASD? The answer to all these questions is no. My knowledge of AS and ASD comes from studying the disorders off and on for various reasons over the past four years, as well as deep interest in the subject. All of the research and work that has been done for “Eye Contact” has been done extensively and well in advance in order for me to make the story as close to reality as possible. Bella’s qualifications and experience are based on those of a friend of mine. Her experiences and stories she has of her studies and work also helped me in composing this piece. Edward is simply an amalgamation of my knowledge of how people with AS are, the qualities that SM gave him, and the qualities that I personally want him to have. He is, I’m afraid, not based on anyone I have ever encountered. If Edward has issues with emotions, is it actually possible for him to fall in love? Yes, many of those with AS pursue and have romantic relationships. They are not conventional as they feel love in a different way, but they do feel it. Some choose not to have romantic relationships for various reasons. I must stress that AS is a spectrum disorder, in that no two people with it have the same experiences. This is a wonderful account of a man who grew up with AS before there was a diagnosis. He is a wonderful storyteller, and it is a great novel for those who do not know much about AS. “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time” by Mark Haddon. This is a well known novel that I read many years ago. Although the condition the protagonist has is never specified, the summary comments that he has AS. “Find Me” by Olwen Wymark. This is actually a play, and was what sparked my interest in AS. It is heart breaking and is set before there was a diagnosis for AS. I really recommend that anyone who wants to know more about AS read this. “Asperger Syndrome- A love story” By Sarah Hendrickx and Keith Newton. Sarah Hendrickx is a training manager at Aspire and works with adults with AS. Her partner, Keith Newton, has AS and the two of them co-authored this book about their experiences. She has also written three other books, one of which I am using for reference in writing “Eye Contact”. “Can I tell you about Asperger Syndrome?” By Jude Welton. This was recommended to me, and is exceptionally helpful when explaining about AS to people. For Synaesthesia that is mentioned in Chapter 16: "Mondays are Red" By Nicola Morgan A fantastic novel that not only explores the sensations that synaesthesia creaters, but shows the power of descriptive writing.
