I'm not much of a writer, more of a reader. I'm just starting to write, and I doubt they would come out fast. English is not my first nor my second language, so writing anything serious takes lots of time. If you're reading Defining Femininity, please be very very very patient.

I consider myself well-versed in Harry Potter, Death note and Hikaru no go fanfic. You can find many fantastic fanfics of those fandoms in my favorite list. I have moved to Detective Conan fandom for a few months, but I can only say I'm well-versed in KaiShin and HeiShin, not the fandom on a whole.

Here, I'll inform you my own preference so you would know what to expect in my favorite list. But first, I have to say, I'm a Romantic. So many dark, realistic (coughdepressingcough) stories won't find themselves here, though they're fantastic I'm sure.

Detective Conan/Case closed

Like I said, I only read KaiShin and HeiShin, and I believe I've read most, if not all of them. It's not that many, actually, compared to my other OTPs in other fandoms. They are always in need of more, especially HeiShin. (But I understand. I myself am guilty of writing KaiShin too. XD They're just too irresistible.)

My choice of KaiShin and HeiShin favorites is not as demanding as my choice of Harry Potter, simply because there are so few. So you are warned that there are some fics in my fav list that aren't that good. But they have the potential, so I put them there.

My most favorite KaiShin of all time must be Good Intentions and Taking out the competition by tsuanyue (though anything by her is highly recommended), and Under the milky way by Kelun. I'd like to add Just Kid'ding around, Folded Wings and Mayonaka into the list but they aren't complete. :-(

And Fallout by The Silversage although isn't KaiShin is just too delightful to be left out.

Ah yes, although I ship KaiShin, I'm mostly a Shin-chan-centric fan. :") I totally think Shinichi is Awesomeness in one tiny package and his overwhelming talents should be blown out of proportion more often. Oh, my hero. *swoon*

Harry Potter

I only read Harry centric fic, most of them slash, the rest non pairing lol. If my definitely considerable adoration for Harry was not considered, my other favorite characters would be Albus, Ron, Hermione, Sirius, Remus. That means, I'm not all that comfy with Bashing fic. I'm inclined to avoid those; however, I do realize that there're basing fic with wonderful plot and writing style.

All the fics I like and recommend to you are mostly well-written, having a great plot and/or saturated with intense feelings (to me, at least), and in-character. I'd like my Harry to more or less retain his admirable traits in the canon, which are noble, courageous, defiant, selfless, rash, having a hero-complex and a temper problem, and totally clueless. Ah, did I mention he must be the submissive in sexual relationship? LOL.

I also read crossover HP/LotR, HP/Twilight, HP/Charmed, HP/KKM, HP/YugiOh and some others. I can claim that I've read all decent slash fics in the first two category, dominantly Harry/Edward and Harry/Legolas. In fact, I can hardly read any other pairs. I don't want to see Edward go with Bella, or anyone else for that matter.

Some other kinds that I often avoid:

Dark!Harry: I avoid these not because I associate Dark with Evil, but because very few writers can actually pull off differentiating the two. I do not believe in Harry being a little maniac killing people left and right spurting his so-called Cause. We already have Voldy for that particular mission, do we not?

Twin Boy-who-lived: I'd like my Harry in the limelight, not any other. None else need saying.

Veela fics: I find the courting, or any social rituals really, very flashy and thus, showy. I'm a true commoner lol.

Angst: I read fanfics to run away from the depressing reality, not to run headlong into it.

Crack/Parody/Pure humor: Oh no, I don't have anything against them. I definitely enjoy a good laugh and a witty parody from time to time. But that's it, that's all. I just prefer a long story with plot and romance and suspense. Humor, if there's any, is certainly a wonderful bonus. But too much of that leaves me exhausted. Yeah I'm weird I know.

Big headed!Harry: Actually, there is no such name. What I mean are the fics in which the authors show off Harry's many so-called skills and knowledge blatantly, then let him look down his pointed nose on every creature available in the universe, while pretending to see them as equal. I stop reading as soon as I recognize this little pathetic move.

Just for the record, I've been rooting in this fandom for nearly 4 years. You can visit my delicious site (serene_saber) for more recs. My classifying tags are very, very, very detailed. Harry-oriented detailed though.

Death note:

I only read slash L/Light. I believe until I left this fandom in favor of Harry Potter in 2008, I have covered most of those fics available on this site. However, you won't find that many fanfics on my list. This particular fandom is very demanding after all. The writers must be quite intellectually-inclined to pull this off. I won't recommend fluffy, easy to read fanfics, since it would be disrespectful toward L and Light, such genius they are. To me, their relationship can never be easy and plain. However, I'm of guilty reading many PWP of this pair lol. Don't kill me, I'm just a self-indulgent fangirl after all :P

Hikaru no go:

In this category, there are slash, and non slash . If it's slash, it will be Hikaru/Akira, or Hikaru/Sai. This was my first focused fandom on this site, so my choices were pretty easy-going. But I assure you, I won't lack any good fic written in 2008 backward. I should know. I have swallowed almost all the fics I can find in this fandom, after all.
