Psychoanalysis of Johnny

While reading this please keep in mind that I am trying to keep this as unbiased and as professional as possible. Here I will attempt to provide you with what I hope to be an interesting look at two possibilities that may be the underlying cause of Johnny's behavior. I do not own this character as he belongs to JV and my analysis in the second chapter will be based off of the methods I learned from reading several books written by the criminal profilist John Douglas who has already successfully probed the minds of such killers as Ted Bundy, Sun of Sam, the BTK, and Edward Gein. The first chapter is from the point of view of a Psychologist that addresses the case as if the subject in question was in fact crazy. The bold ed numbers coincide with the examples of this behavior that he has shown at the bottom of this chapter. Information about Schizophrenia found on med line plus, and further help came from Ebony-Jane Cullen who pointed out the possibility for other personality problems that could serve as an explanation for behavior not covered by the initial diagnosis.

Johnny seems to show many of the symptoms that characterize schizophrenia of which includes disorganized thought process. This is shown by how easily he can be distracted by the slightest interruptions.1 This symptom also reveals itself when he goes on one of his rants2; these speeches are sometimes hard to follow as he jumps from one random rant to another3, and when most of his rant does make senseit is sometimes interspersed with random words which makes it slightly unintelligible.4

Another symptom of schizophrenia expressed are delusions of grandeur this is seen here in the form of the belief that he is invincible despite the proof that failure was his own doing this he denies in favor of the idea that "something else prevented him from remembering"5. and delusions of persecution an example of this being the unfortunate misshape at the taco restraint.6With these Delusions come hallucinations that can manifest themselves as sounds usually voices smells and images that aren't there. In Johnny's case these manifestations seem to take place in the form of both auditory and visual sensations.7

the final symptoms of schizophrenia johnny expresses include poor social interaction8 and suicide which is usually carried out effectively by young males.9

the only Symptom that Johnny seems to have that is uncommon among schizophrenics is a violent nature which is only present in schizophrenics that are involved in drug abuse.

However, this only poses a problem if one uses schizophrenia as the only explanation for his behavior, which can be explained if one were to include the presence of other personality disorders that lie within the same family as schizophrenia.

Though further research should be done to be sure the symptoms of said disorder(s) fit the actions and characteristics of the individual in question; other possibilities offered include schizotypal personality disorder which can, overtime, lead to schizophrenia; and schizoaffective disorder which presents symptoms of both bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

If we were to assume that, like most serial killers, Johnny knows the difference between right and wrong and is entirely aware of his actions, we can assume then that he must have little or no ability to show compassion or control his impulses, scientifically this could point towards poor functioning in the frontal lobe, the area of the brain that allows one to control their rage impulses. Weather poor frontal lobe functioning means the the person is fully sane is controversial, but nevertheless it is a crucial similarity shared by all serial killers (or at leased those studied).

If we were to look at his crimes through the point of view of a criminal profialest looking at the killers victims alone would be enough to give them a rough idea of the killer. Through victimology we can conclude that the UN-SUB (unknown subject) is male, not only because statistics have shown most serial killers to be male; but because males seem to enjoy using things that will quickly render the victim powerless while a female prefers to kill her victims through a slow death by poison. Another question that can be answered about the UN-SUB is that of his ethnicity, because serial killers almost always kill within there own ethnic background we can conclude that because the victims were Caucasian than the killer would be as well. Though further evidence is needed to confirm weather other serial killer attributes are present with in the individual one consistency that can be seen lies the mistreatment of animals in the past as evidenced by the death of the rabbit now called Nail Bunny, and the appearance of dead animals, specifically cats and dogs, that lie mixed in with the rest of the objects that litter the floor of his house; this is viewed by some as practice for the future. The way he treats his victims by binding them or otherwise restricting their movement allows us to conclude that the killer may be into bondage, as it gives him the feeling of having control over the victim. This need to dominate others may come from feelings of inadequacy, shame, or feelings of failure all of which are strengthened by the way others in society treat him. For the most part the majority of serial killers are fully sane meaning that any argument they make saying otherwise may just be a way to rationalize their acts of violence.
