Story Update:
Unfortunately I lied, not intentionally though. Chapter 5 is going to be delayed (for how long, I'm not sure). In the meantime, you can expect a rewrite of chapter 2. But don't get too excited, it will probably be a few weeks yet. Sorry. I know its been over a month since I updated. I'm not giving up, just trying to make it better.
In Case You're Wondering:
Why did I start my story way back before CSI:NY even premiered? As I have previously stated, it crosses over with JAG. I don't want to give too much away at this point, but there is a particular JAG episode which I'll refer to a couple chapters from now. This episode is from season seven (2001-2002). It plays a pivotal role in why Sydney came to New York when she did. I suppose I could have made my own timeline, but as it relates to her and Mac's relationship, I thought it best to stick with what was already established. Also, as I'm introducing a new OC, I felt it best to start at the beginning, rather than jumping in at the middle and acting as if she'd always been there.
About me:
I like to write, but most of my writing is usually non-fictional in nature, editorials, reviews, etc. I'm pretty dry, witty and sarcastic and find it easy to exhibit that in my writing. I'm not as experienced when it comes to fictional writing, but I'm giving it a whirl anyway. I have these ideas and stories in my head, but putting them down on paper always seems like such a daunting task. I hate staring at a computer screen trying to figure out what to write. I'm so glad I'm done with college and don't "have" to do that anymore. Now I can just do it for fun.
I prefer angst over happy endings. You can draw so much more emotion out of angst than when a couple lives happily ever after. Once a couple is together and happy and they've got everything they want, then where do you go from there? It just gets boring. All that said, I'm not sure if my story will have a happy ending or not. I've got a long ways to go though before I have to make that decision.
Favorites:
Star Trek - all of it, except TOS (its just so hard to watch now that all these other series and movies have come out)
Xena: Warrior Princess & Hercules: The Legendary Journeys
Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel
Firefly
JAG & NCIS
The CSIs - NY is my fav, then Vegas, Miami is ok
Heroes
Bones
Desperate Housewives
Sex and the City
Harry Potter - books and movies
The Sims 2 with all the EPs and SPs
I think thats enough for now... ;o)
About my writing:
I'm working on my first CSI:NY fanfic - my first fanfic ever to be more specific. I'm not a big fan of the Mac/Stella pairing. I just don't see it. To me, they're just friends, nothing more. Anything else seems forced, contrived. I liked Peyton well enough, although I don't think she was quite right for him either. I think it was a better match than one with Stella would be though. I'm interested to see what might come about with his relationships with Jordan and Quinn. I like Quinn over Jordan, although she comes off as a bit desperate, which bugs me. As for Jordan, she's too needy, too wimpy. So, I'm working on my own original character as a love interest for Mac. I'm trying to be true to Mac's character in my writing. I love his character! He's dignified, reserved, intelligent, strong, courageous, I could go on and on. He's also a tortured soul. For whatever reason I find that attractive in a man. Its probably why I also love character's such as Angel and Capt. Malcolm Reynolds.
About My OC:
Sydney Logan is a character that, until now, has lived in my mind for the past thirteen years. Her name hasn't always been Sydney though. I think in her first incarnation her name was Annette. She's also been Hannah, Elena and Jordan among others (you can see how my taste in names has changed over the years). She began as an OC for Star Trek: Voyager - a love interest for Cmdr. Chakotay. I also developed storylines for her in various other shows: Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, Firefly, even CSI as a love interest for Grissom (but I quickly thought better of it). It wasn’t until recently that I decided to flesh out a complete story to share with the fan fiction community. I finally settled on CSI:NY as the backdrop and Mac Taylor as her particular love interest. Of all the pairings I’ve contemplated for her, I think he’s the one best suited for the task.
Story Notes:
I'm not sure that anyone really cares, but just as an FYI, I'm going to change the first name of Sydney's father. Essentially he's Admiral A.J. Chegwidden from JAG, but as I've previously stated, I didn't want to use the last name of Chegwidden for Sydney. It fits the admiral alone, but it wouldn't fit the daughter I've created for him. I digress...in chapter two I gave his first name as Jonathan. After some thought, however, I've decided to switch it back to A.J., so it will be distinct as to who he is. So, in short, Sydney's father's is Admiral A.J. Logan.
My story crosses over with JAG; however, after thinking about it some more, I believe it's more of an AU JAG crossover. I'm really going to change things up as far as JAG cannon goes. The first so far has been that Sydney is the daughter of Admiral Chegwidden. There will be others, but I can't say what exactly just yet. I hope die-hard JAG fans won't hate me too much. (Please know that I'm a die-hard JAG fan myself. When I went to college I didn't have a TV in my dorm room, but I made sure that I found a way to watch it every week, even if it meant a snowy TV without rabbit ears).
I made a mistake in chapter two of my story. Not a huge deal, but I strive for realism. In the JAG 'verse, JAG HQ is in Falls Church, VA. In real life its at the Washington Navy Yard in D.C. For the purposes of my story, I haven't decided which location I'll go with (it may not even be an issue). At any rate, Norfolk, VA is too far from either location for someone to commute. Therefore, I'm going to switch Sydney's father's home from Norfolk to Alexandria. Alexandria is a central spot for either Falls Church or the Navy Yard. I'm sure some of you might think this is anal, but others of you will appreciate it. ;o) I know, I know, I should have checked my facts before posting. But I was just so excited about posting my next chapter. I'll try to be less hasty in the future. :o)
Gary Sinise/Mac Taylor is 5'10; my new character Sydney is also 5'10. I wanted her to be a tall and somewhat dominating figure, but I don't like the fact that she's the same height as Mac. So, for the sake of my story, please envision Mac as being taller, closer to Flack's height. I like tall women, but I don't like it when they're taller than their love interests. It makes it hard to wear heels around them ;o)
Please read and review. Constructive criticism is always welcome. I'm new to this, so any help or advice is appreciated. :o)
