This story pulled me in immediately, took me a while to figure out where she was and where she could have possibly been that held this many memories. My first thought was that he’d died and I was really upset about that prospect because I never like a sad story. But when I learned the story from her “retelling”, it gave me hope. And when she touched the kiss, and he came up behind her, I got goose bumps. The high school setting totally fit the dramatic emotional range and enabled me to be in her Bella’s shoes. (In fact, I just looked back to see if it had been Bella, since the emotions were so strong, the pairing was almost inconsequential.)

Of the many amazing stories written for this contest, the one that stood out to me the most was In Terms of Forever. From the very first few paragraphs, the writing picked me up, shook me and forced me to take notice. I was swept away in the lyricism. The story is told in quick-switching alternating first-person POVs, which can be incredibly distracting and difficult to follow when handled by an unskilled writer. But the lovely person behind In Terms of Forever made the story-telling sing, blending the POVs seamlessly and giving us a lovely, enchanting story of two kindred souls, spotting each other amidst the crowd. It’s not the most likely tale of love, but it is the kind that could make even the most hardened heart beat a little faster, wanting so badly to believe that this kind of connection could be real. Just a treat to read.
