10/1/08 - Life does indeed imitate art sometimes. In a similar fashion to the Death Eater-controlled Ministry in DH, my editor has promised to personally fire anyone who refers to Barack Obama by name. Troubled as I am by his Fascist attitude, I'm quite tickled to hear some call Obama . . . You-Know-Who. Or, if they accidentally say the name, they get that deer-in-the-headlights look and start whipping their heads every which way to see who heard. I pretend I'm Hermione on the run. I even have a little beaded purse somewhere that I might start carrying around. But I may well be out of a job soon. Of course, that means more updates. Deal or no deal?
9/30/08 - It's all good. Whew. If I haven't responded to you yet, it means I didn't get your message. I can't believe all the work I got done. Until Friday!
Later on 9/29/08 - Well, I got some backed-up messages. So it looks like the bottleneck is moving. I'm going to put off replying until I'm sure it's all okay, though, as it's obvious these are left over from, like, two days ago and new messages still aren't going out. So since this morning, I came up with another new story idea (oneshot) and I'm about a fifth of the way through that. Now that I know I'll eventually get all my backed-up messages, this incident was the best thing that could have happened to me. Look at all the work I got done!
9/29/08 - Since early on 9/27, the site hasn't been delivering any communications (review alerts, PMs, chapter alerts, etc). If you've tried during this time, it's unlikely that I got your message, but I can't PM anyone anyway until it's all back up. I'd never ignore my beloved readers! If you don't hear back from me at any time, this type of glitch is the cause. You can always resend if you think your message might have gotten lost; I miss talking with you all! This is just driving me insane. I'm even biting my nails, which I never did before. Oddly, though, I'm so full of nervous energy with no email to read that I'm punching out chapters like it's going out of style, and fast. I've even finished Sirius Consequences! My baby! And a new GFH chapter, and C1 of a whole new story. I'm now working on C3 of Lost Pleiad. People waiting on OIM, don't hold your breath; I have to be fair to my other children.!
9/28/08 - Almost done with Twilight. I refuse to be converted. I don't like vampires! I . . . I don't . . . what's happening to me?!
9/26/08 - Neosporin allowed through security. Finished Marble Faun. Go me. Got tired of waiting for Twilight, so I bought it. Go Amazon.
I saw a profile recently that had a "What I'm Reading" category. That was pretty neat, I thought.
What I'm Reading: The Marble Faun. I gather Hawthorne was the Stephen King of his day. The last hundred and fifty pages are like those last five pounds. Incidentally, also reading King's The Talisman. Not far enough in to comment. How Green Was My Valley, which isn't much fun because I already heard how it ends. People are killjoys. Barnaby Rudge, just started. I'll be traveling soon and should bring it on the plane. If it isn't confiscated along with my Neosporin. Just finished Middlemarch. That's one of those where you don't know if it was really excellent or just such an ecstatic relief to get done with. I'm tired of hearing Twilight references and not getting it, so I have it on request at the library even though I don't like vampires. Also, poems from Ondaatje's The Cinnamon Peeler. I must be stupid and uncultured, because I prefer poetry that rhymes. Every night, I read a poem from The Five Nations, and those usually have a nice cadence to them.
I want to thank everyone who's reviewed or messaged me about any of these stories. I try to respond to all of them, but FF.net sometimes doesn't send me emails for reviews (ergo, no reply link). I'm getting better about PMing in that case, but I used to shy away from that. Also, for the first three chapters or so of GFH, no one got a response, as I wasn't getting email at all. And, as in the End of September 2008 Debacle, sometimes no messages go in or out. I never deliberately ignore anyone. So for everyone I missed, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on my stories, and for those I didn't miss, thanks again! Feel free to email me to talk about HP fanfic. Or cats. Or just life. I'm always up for a chat with fellow fans.
Click here to view a banner I made for Sirius Consequences. I have no artistic ability whatsoever; yes, I realize it sucks. I've never done this before. Update: Two people have told me they liked it; I wonder if that was sincere. Like Frenchy in Small Time Crooks said, "Whenever someone gives you something they cooked, you always say you like it even if it makes you throw up afterward."
