So, I'm bitch-slapping the final chapters of Chasing the Dragon into some kind of shape. I'm hoping to get it finished (Yes! Finished!) within a few weeks. After that I plan to take on the mammoth task of editing and cutting and rewriting to resolve the problems I have with it as a whole. Wish me luck. Yikes. Other projects? The Prewett Boys, is something that I'm excited about and want to write in it's entirety before I post it, so consider the prologue a teaser of sorts, but yes, excited! Other stories that are on the horizon? Plenty. Though if they ever see the light of day it will be a miracle at this rate.

P.S What, what? You may have noticed that cathy-bloom1 is no longer. This is still she, the name change finally happened after all this time. She was not, in fact, abducted by (curiously productive) aliens who decided to take over from where she left off and say things like what's the dealio like they're from the nineties or something.. or was she? You'll never know. ;D

Okay, so the following is a teeny-tiny excerpt from my upcoming story The Prewett Boys, the prologue of which has been posted for what seems like forever. This scene has rewritten itself dozens of times and this is it's latest incarnation. It's also something I kind of want to love, if only it would behave itself.

The Black Shuck was, to Fabian’s mind at least, his illicit teenaged years given shape. It was first shots and bar-brawls, sticky kisses and blood-soaked tea-towels all mixed in with whatever it was the barkeep grew in the mens loo. It was a winding path home through the woods, the night sky spinning above him and Gideon’s drunken laughter driving away the wildlife.

It was a barkeep who two parts despised, one part humoured them because they were the Prewetts and, at least around this little corner of the world, that meant something.

He still wasn’t entirely convinced it wasn’t a construct of his and Gideon’s minds, sticky floorboards and questionable musical inclinations included.

“Tuuuuutshillll,” Gideon bellowed tunelessly over the clamour of the bar.

“TORNADOES!” Fabian echoed along with what sounded like the rest of the bar.

The barkeep begrudgingly reached for the cowbell hanging over the bottles of Ogden’s finest and Fabian dutifully threw back the remainder of his Firewhiskey to the sound of magically-enhanced clanging.

There was nothing quite like coming home.
