A LITTLE ABOUT ME

My name is Kelly-Emma and I am a 25 year old mummy (and I don’t mean wrapped in muslin!). My son, Costigan is 1 and I have two stepdaughters 7, 6. My fiancé Ste is also a writer on here but he asked me not to say his pen name…I think he feels a little self conscious about his writing because he only started recently.

We live in the lovely dreary ex-mining town of Castleford in West Yorkshire. Yeah that’s in the UK. It’s not that bad I suppose, I just know there’s more to the world than where I grew up and I want to experience it.

Since being small I have always had a great imagination and have always wanted to be a movie director. Eventually I would like to have enough money to move to the US. It is somewhere that I have never been but have always felt as though I should be there.

For the past few years I have suffered from depression on and off for various personal reasons resulting in a mild stint of drinking heavily, severe self harm and did at one point attempt to, shall we say ‘remove myself from society’. I use my writing as a form of release I suppose and find it easy to draw on my experiences as a young woman in various situations to describe certain scenes in some of my stories. I apologise if anyone is offended by any descriptions I have used but the majority of them I have, by some miracle, managed to live through and therefore am able to give quite graphic descriptions of sensations and feelings.

A NOTE TO ANYONE WHO HAS JUST READ THE ABOVE PARAGRAPH…I DO NOT CONDONE SELF HARM. IF YOU FEEL LIKE DOING SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO YOURSELF PLEASE SPEAK TO SOMEONE, A DOCTOR, A FRIEND, A PARENT OR A PRIEST…ANYONE ABOUT IT. YOUR LIFE IS PRECIOUS AND YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW IMPORTANT YOU ARE TO THOSE AROUND YOU…EVEN IF IT FEELS LIKE YOU ARE ALONE! I would not be the person I am today if I had not lived through the things that I have. I would not have my fiancé, my son or the friends I have. I also would not have written my stories and you would not have read them.

On a brighter note, I’m fine now…yay!

I suppose I ought to tell you about my favourite things (and not via way of singing! Hehe!) Here goes…

Books:

Alice In Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Life of Lazlo Count Dracula (not sure this title is correct. Basically Dracula but he’s not a supernatural being…imagine if Christopher Nolan made the movie!), Catcher in the Rye, 1984, The Ax-man Cometh (spelled that way because it’s an American horror), Grimm’s Fairytales.

Films:

A Clockwork Orange, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Starwars (original trilogy), Pan’s Labyrinth, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman-The Dark Knight (may Heath Ledger rest in peace), 10 Things I hate About You, Donnie Darko, Brother’s Grimm, Labyrinth, Tommy, Halloween 1 & 2, Pi, and many many many more…

Let me just say, although I enjoy a blockbuster as much as the next person I hate films that are made simply to make money. By that I mean all these really bad teen so called horror movies or ridiculously overly sexual movies. I am not opposed to a bit of erotica (that being the correct term for a sex scene in which the participants are not actually being ahem intimate). I also hate people who have no real talent and are famous simply for looking ‘pretty’ or ‘gorgeous’. It annoys me when casting directors choose an actor because they are classed as a sex symbol when they OBVIOUSLY cannot act! I shall name no names but people who know me will understand. There are at least thousands of struggling actors in the world who are overlooked- not because they don’t have the ‘right’ look for the part but because they are not slim enough or ‘pretty’ enough! It just really annoys me.

Anyway…

Favourite food:

Italian, Chinese, Ramen (Japanese noodle dish), Paella, fried goat’s cheese ona bed of rocket leaves and spinach with caramelised onions- I know it’s very specific but believe me it’s nice!

I’ll try anything once…if I don’t like it I’ll never eat it again!! Hehe!

Somewhere I never been…

I don’t think there’s much else to say really, I’m not that interesting a person. So I guess I’ll leave it there…

Except to say that I believe everything happens for a reason. We may not understand the reason at the time but it will all work its way out in the end. It’s just a matter of time.
