9/20/09:

Dear readers and supporters of Black and White and Patience and Practice,

Due to organized efforts by a small group with an incredible amount of time on their hands, the Black and White story you all alerted for updates on the Patience and Practice series has been removed. The pulled content contained my author’s note and apology regarding the removal of the story from the web. As a result, the review history, alerts for the story and all links from outside sources are no longer active.

It is appropriate to publicly apologize for violating the terms of service by posting an author's note. It won't happen again.

Nevertheless, these actions have only strengthened my fortitude, and I would like to direct my focus appropriately. Millions of serious, aspiring writers do not have the opportunity to share their stories with fantastic, intelligent women and I am thankful for this venue. I would never have had the audacity or courage to write my amateur drivel without your constant support and encouragement. Therefore, I would like to thank everyone who read, cried, loved and supported the story Black and White during its online publication, as well as Patience and Practice, which was offered in gratitude for said support. Thanks also to the thousands of readers who continued to add Black and White and the Patience and Practice one-shots to communities, favorites and alert lists well after the removal of the original publication.

I hope the final publication of Black and White will be a testament to the profoundly inspirational impact the supportive members of this writing/publishing/editing/reading community can provide to accidental writers such as myself—especially when our goals, intentions and actions are aimed at uplifting one another. I will do my best to produce a quality story worthy of your unwavering guidance and encouragement. Thank you again.

Humbly Yours,

Tiffany (vixen1836)

Following is consolidated information from the removed author's note:

I will continue the series Patience and Practice for the Black and White universe on this site due to technical issues and reader requests. However, I highly encourage you to register your email address for my website because I cannot control communication via this venue. Updates and information will be provided there first, and I cannot post any additional author's notes on this site about anything. ETA: Registration can be facilitated by clicking on the top left hand side of the homepage, under "registration".

For those interested in reading my author's note/apology regarding the story removal, please click me.

For those interested in details regarding the novel Black and White, please click me.

For those desiring to read with the playlists (highly recommended), the links to the Patience and Practice series are under my stories at my website. Please note that the Patience and Practice series was written in the Black and White universe for those that followed the story online. Since I had to remove the story from the Internet with unresolved sexual tension, I began the series for those seeking resolution.

Summary of Black and White as published online, written by Cicada

Despite being jaded and disillusioned by the horrors of war, Edward Masen is profoundly grateful to be alive. After being gravely injured in Fallujah under circumstances he cannot fully remember, he is discharged from the Marine Corps with PTSD.

Upon leaving the military hospital, Edward isolates himself in his ancestral home in Forks, Washington, wanting nothing more than to be worthy of the life he has retained. Far from family and friends, he undertakes recovery on his own, working to “get right” by living a regimented life. But his methods aren’t working, and the best he can seem to achieve is a state of numbness.

Enter Bella Swan, a college student on summer break. Away from the academic life she loves, Bella is desperate for something to do. With her father’s help, she gets a job at a local sporting goods store to pass the time and earn some money for school. In her own way, Bella is as isolated as Edward, living as she does through the romantic stories of classic literature, with few real-life friends around.

Forks is a small town, and it isn’t long before Bella and Edward meet. Despite his initial attraction to her, he is determined to remain alone, and forces himself to stay away from her. She cannot stop thinking about him, but her shyness and inexperience keep her from doing anything more than that.

Thrown together once more under dangerous circumstances, Edward saves Bella, to the detriment of his own resolve. She is different from anyone he has ever known and he can no longer resist or avoid her. The tentative friendship they form eases their mutual loneliness, and soon they are spending most of their free time together.

Wanting to protect Bella from the darker aspects of his past and his PTSD, Edward still keeps her at a distance; especially once he knows that what he feels for her surpasses mere friendship. Hoping to get right by Thanksgiving, he works even harder at his recovery, promising himself that he will find Bella then and win her love.

But there is a critical flaw in Edward’s plan: Bella has already fallen in love with him. She knows he feels something for her, but wants to be sure of him before she returns to school. She presses him for answers and physical demonstrations that he cannot yet give, and her resolve breaks him. In the clutches of a full-blown panic attack, he leaves her, escaping only after an unmeant promise to return before her departure for college.

When Edward fails to return, Bella is heartbroken, left unsure of herself by events she could not have predicted. She gets through the semester like the good student she is, but by Thanksgiving she is emotionally exhausted, unable to continue waiting or hoping for Edward’s return. She writes a goodbye letter to him, planning to leave it at his house during the break.

In the meantime, Edward has returned and is working harder than ever on his recovery. By now, he has sought the help of a psychiatrist and is making progress, his focus never wavering from his goal of winning Bella back. He has not contacted her since he left, but thinks of her constantly, hoping and planning and dreaming for their future.

Once again, Edward has failed to predict what Bella will do; she arrives at his house, thinking that whoever is living there now will forward her letter to him. She is shocked to see him-hurt beyond belief to find that he has been there all along but never contacted her. In that moment, Edward knows he must tell Bella the truth or risk losing her forever.

From this point forward, their relationship begins a path that both must decide to follow. As both characters fully embrace and nourish their feelings for one another, truths are discovered and revelations unveiled. Events until the resolution lead to something both sought since the beginning. Companionship, love, redemption, and hope.

Black and White was removed and is currently being edited for original publication.
