CURRENT STATUS And the writer of sporadic bursts strikes again! Yes, I know I'm a terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad author. But unfortunately, said author is also a student, and much as I wish otherwise, schoolwork has been taking up an inordinate amount of time this year in light of upcoming exams. On the other hand, though, the writing still goes on every now and then during my self-proclaimed breaks from the pursuit of academia, primarily in the forms of shorter works, the most frequent being the drabbles indexed here. I'm also proud to say that I won NaNoWriMo with 50,280 words, although only about 30,000 words or so have been posted up on my NaNo blog owing to the truly deplorable state of the last quarter or so. Scroll down for more details, and see you around soon! -Joy, 28/3 NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH 2012 What? you exclaim in shock. A novel? Um, yeah. As a participant of the National Novel Writing Month 2012, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo or just NaNo, I'll be writing a 50,000 word novel in the 30 days of November. More specifically, I'm writing the Detective Conan/Magic Kaito AU fic that's been haunting me for quite a while – full synopsis below, as well as my NaNoWriMo-dedicated blog, where I'll be posting the fic itself as it's written, along with other interesting tidbits on my writing process and other things. You're more than welcome to stop by! Of course, everything there will be raw and completely (dare I say it?) unedited, so it's probably not going to be the best fic around. If all goes well, it'll eventually be edited and posted here on FF.Net, so you can wait till then to read it. -Joy, 31/10 unshadowed skies nanowrimo 2012 Taken from their families, trained to kill – what will Shinichi and Kaito risk for freedom? Thirteen years ago, two boys vanished without a trace. Now, danger looms as old secrets are revealed, unravelling the threads of their past. Betrayers are betrayed, and the battle is taken out into the open – but as more people get involved, more get hurt. When disaster strikes home, legends are rekindled and priorities change. As the noose tightens, they must fight to protect what is theirs, and escape the shadows of the past… but will it let them go? MESSAGE FROM THE AUTHOR There's this overused story about throwing starfish back into the ocean: even though there are thousands of stranded starfish out there, but as long as you return even one starfish to the ocean, you'll have made a world of difference for that particular starfish. It's the same with my writing. I know I'm far from the best writer around; there are many, many more people out there who write much better stuff than I could ever dream of writing. But to me, as long as I've made a difference, then whatever effort I've put into my stories is worth it. If my writing made someone smile or cry; if someone really enjoyed, or even got inspired by it; if it made an originally horrid day just 0.01% brighter and more tolerable - then I will have done my job as a writer. Of course, that also means that I obsess over almost everything I post here - you wouldn't believe how much time I can spend deliberating over practically every other word, or rewriting entire scenes just because one line seems off. Only the stuff that I think is good enough gets posted up here; if I were to post everything that I wrote at one time or another, I would probably have about ten times the number of stories uploaded. So I hope that you guys will understand why I can't promise regular updates. I do try, I assure you. But things don't always work out the way we want them to: ideas aren't always that easy to get, and sometimes, even when I have an idea, the story just doesn't come out right. All that aside, however, I will try to give regular updates on my current status - you can find it near the top of this page - and write whenever I can!
