Author has written 3 stories for Sweep. Bonjour! Je m'appelle Mhairi. . . who unfortunately lives in rainy Glasgow, Scotland not paris. But one can dream! I'm nineteen years old and have a slight addiction to fan fiction that is beginning to border on chronic. My favourite books include (takes deep breath, imagine chicken song playing in the backgroung) : Everything by Jane Austen because she was a genius. Elizabeth Gaskell for writing Crandford and thus making me laugh till I was crying and my stomach hurt. The Bell Jar because it is peaceful melancholy. Tolstoy for giving us the greatest example of destructive love and perfect love in the one novel. Daphne Du Maurier fantastic gothic ghost tales and for giving Alfred Hitchcock half of his movies. All of The Beat writers even though they were all selfish drug addicted bums. The Great Gatsby just because it is fabulous. Thomas Hardy because it's all so sad and Elizabeth Barrett Browning because it was all so hopeful. Shakespeare because it's beautiful and Nabokov because it is disgusting. 1984 because Orwell started to write it eight minutes from my house. Hemingway because it's all like summer and Eva Ibbotson because the good people are good and the bad are bad. Steinbeck because it's like talking to an old friend and Henry James because it scares the hell out of me. Frances Hodgson Burnett because I was addicted when I was ten and Carroll because I always wanted to be Alice. Thackery because he destroys my faith in humanity and Streatfeild because it reinstates it. Murakami because it is all so tangible. Katherine Mansfield because its for light filled afternoons. Radcliffe because it's so over dramatic. Cicely Mary Barker because it can be recitied anywhere and Emily Dickinson because it should be recitied on street corners. Cate Tiernan because it's junk food reading. CApote because it's utterly materialistic. The Virgin Suicides because it's heady and heavy. D.H Lawrence because gypsies aren't cartoon characters. Chbosky because it doesn't matter if you spill coffee on it. Barbara Pym because of the ladies who love socks and clergymen and Chaucer because it's Chaucer. The Diary of a Provincial Lady because it's like a tea party. Etgar Keret because it makes your head spin and Dr. Zhivago because it is utterly Russia. I could not live without my three copies of "Persuasion", coffee and my ipod. I love Autumn, it's my favourite season just because it is so warm and cosy. All the colours are beautiful and I get to wear all my Scarves and buy some more! For some it's shoes, for me it's scarves. I like beaches when it's cold and I love waking up and realising you have anouther hour to sleep. I have a spider outside my window called Cressida and I can never find a matching pair of socks. I don't like moderisations of classic books and I can't stand coconut and lemon cake. Tea is a divine substance and flat cherry coke is really really nice. Windmills are oddly hypnotic and Dolphins are the happiest creatures on the planet. I have the best job in the world, in a bookshop . . . so i do spend my entire life surrounded dusty volumes and shiny paperbacks (i also get discount, yeay!), I have been told that I smell like a book which I dont find to be an insult because I love that smell. My favourite band are "The Stereophonics". Other favourites include PJ Harvey, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, The Beatles, Belle and Sebastian. Plus loads more that I can't actually remember at this moment in time. I can never decide on a favourite movie, there are just too many. Though Ice Age 3 is climbing the ranks mearly because of PEACHES! I am one of those strange people who cant stay away from kids books (they are just too good!) and puts tomatoe sauce in macaroni and cheese. I have started a Wicca/Sweep fan fic along with a Harry Potter one. when find the conviction and courage to post them I will, but for now i shall enjoy the fruits of others labour and watch stephen fry on youtube. | |||||||
