Author has written 17 stories for Evangelion, X-overs, Halo, Good Omens, Warhammer, Hellsing, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, White Wolf, Mass Effect, Haruhi Suzumiya series, Familiar of Zero, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica/魔法少女まどか★マギカ. So, yes, I'm not really quite sure what I should put in this box, so I'll just blather for a while, then finish it up with a heart-felt cry for reviews. That sound okay to you? Anyway, I am what might be considered a massive geek. I have shelves full of roleplaying games and science fiction, and I will quite willingly argue comparative power levels of fictional universe with people. It's more fun that way. After all, has not man, since the earliest days of proto-hominids, looked up from the ground, and went, "Nuh-huh! A sabre-toothed tiger could totally beat a wolf. It's got much bigger teeth, for one, and moreover the inverse ninja law like totally applies to sabre-toothed tigers, which means that a single one is unstoppable." And then the other humans would argue back, and they would get into a massive fight. And then, one day, the argument got so intense that a nearby patch of ground spontateously combusted from the nerd-rage. And thus, fire was discovered. Hence the origin of the term "flaming". Cthulhutech, for those unaware of the setting, is a pen-and-paper PRG which uses the Framewerk system. Setting wise, it's an unholy kitchen sink of a setting, consisting of blended Evangelion, Macross, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Guyver, all served up in a nice Cthulhu Mythos sorbet. Of course, I'm only familiar with Eva and the Cthulhu Mythos, so that seemed like the logical thing to emphasise. After a thread about what would happen if the Ashcroft Foundation was inserted into the start of canon Eva (conclusion; the addition of mandatory counciling makes everyone a lot happier), I had an idea in the back of my head to write a crossover between the two. This started life as a Las Vegas swap; Cthulhutech has the Zone (a tear in reality which might quite well be a hole into the body of Azathoth) destroying Las Vegas, while Evangelion has whatever happened with the attempts to reverse engineer an S2 engine/ install it. I was going to have Ctech Las Vegas basically be copied over the Eva Las Vegas (heh. "singing "Eva Las Vegas"). And somehow, that concept sitting in the back of my head morphed into Aeon Natum Engel. fin Oh yes, and, please, if you liked it, leave a review. I know it's terribly shallow, but my fragile ego receives a fix everytime I see that number increase (like a WoW player, but I kid, for they are an important demographic). So, pretty please? 09.02.2010 So... um. Yeah. I think I do have some explaining to do. See the Aeon Natum Engel entry for more details. Unless you haven't read the most recent chapter, of course. Aeon Natum Engel - 09.02.2010 COMPLETE - REWRITE IN PROCESS Yes, ladies and gentlemen; Aeon Natum Engel is, for now, over. This was not the initially planned end, and is not in fact the true ending so to speak; it's just a BAD END. Specifically, as Operation CATO proceeded, I ended up having to recheck some of the earlier chapters for some minor details. And what I found there... well, it will suffice to say that I have improved as an author a lot since those early days. I think what has to be remembered is that ANE is my first real, proper-length fanfic, and, in all honesty, I didn't know what I was doing with it at first. When I look at the first few chapters, I can see the aborted foetuses of dead plot arcs littered all over the initial few chapters, where I came up with things, and abandoned them at will. And then just look at how the technology in the setting evolved, as my repertoire of this kind of hardish nearish future sci-fi improved, and the Migou... well, look at the Migou from their first appearance, and compare them to the reasonable, cyberdemocratic, transmigouist Yuggothian fungoids of CATO. Anyway, suffice to say, I decided that I was going to start again, using material from ANE to tell the story as it is better to be, plotted properly from the start, and with my habit to introduce shout-outs to series I like curtailed. Or at least made more obscure. Aeon Entelechy Evangelion is currently in the planning stage, with a full historic timeline being drawn up. Given that one of my premises is that the HPL stories are actually historical, if perhaps unreliable, that means that the history of the 20th century is subtly different. To explain; let me just show you the entry for 1930-31 1930-1931 – The Pabodie Expedition stumbles across an Elder Thing city in Antarctica. With the fall of their civilisation, as they were pushed back by the Star Spawn, the Migou, the Flying Polyps and the many other denizens of the Earth, it became one of their last hold-outs. Despite the protestations of William Dyer, one of the two survivors, a second expedition is sent, and the city mapped and publicised. The discovery of a pre-human civilisation sends the world into shock and awe; from the evidence available, they appear to have been, although more primitive than humanity, at least civilised enough to build things, and have a rich, elaborate mythology. Notably, there is a resurgence of theosophical beliefs, with the Elder Things believed to have been one of the Earlier Races of Mankind, we being their degenerate descendent; beliefs which last long into the 1960s, to influence the neo-romantic movement. The religious reaction is polarised; it promotes both increased acceptance of science, from more liberal thinkers who accept the concept of Deep Time, or that God is greater than mankind alone and so has created a universe where other sapient beings can live, while there is naturally a backlash against the entire thing from more reactionary groups. There is a rush of nations from around the world, trying to set up scientific stations around it; it ends up such that it is almost exclusively dominated by the victors from WW1. Notably, Germany is denied permission by the League of Nations, which takes nominal administration of the site (though in fact it is dominated by the European Allies and the US, which on paper joins the LoN to standardise the administration of the place), and their attempts suffer mysterious sabotage and problems with shipping, which raises tensions, especially after several prominent German scientists defect, so that they can have a look at the city. Interesting... hmm? Now, I wonder what effect that has on the timeline, later? For more details on Aeon Natum Engel, mad ravings, and allegations from readers that I am some kind of Eldritch Abomination (which have, incidentally, made their way onto the tvtropes page, go to http://forums.spacebattles.com/showthread.php?t=140260, which seems to have become the main discussion thread for ANE on the interwebs. Name: Aeon Natum Engel Recommended Source Materials: Books: Anything by Alastair Reynolds, especially his Revelation Space universe, likewise anything by Stephen Baxter (but specifically Transcendent, from his Xeelee universe), Dan Simmon's Hyperion Cantos, and of course HP Lovecraft, specifically In The Mountains of Madness, where he firmly establishes that the Mythos is a sci-fi setting; it's just that we don't understand the "sci" part. RPGs: Cthulhutech. Well, duh. The World of Darkness also sees occasional use; Damnation City is one of the best setting building books I've ever seen, and Intruders: Encounters with the Abyss has a very nice guide to how to run (or tell stories about) cosmic horror. Anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion (yeah, it's kind of obvious; just look at the title), Ghost in the Shell (anime continuity) for the post-cyberpunk feel and genuine look at how technology might transform the nature of man, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (there's an extended running joke about the "loathsome Tsab", who are the TSAB written as an Eldritch Abomination) Games: FEAR and Project Origin, because they're main crossovers, and also really good games on their own. Fanfics: Academia Nut's Thousand Shinji, the old favourite Children of an Elder God (the big Eva/Mythos crossover) Three Thousand Four Hundred and Eighteen - 18.12.2009 Chapter 2 (UNNAMED) Status: Sort of being considered and planned. This story is crazy. I do not deny this. But you lot seem to think that it's awesome, mainly for the humour value. So (as a blatant slave to the hit counter on the FF.net control pannel), I guess it comes to me to give you more of what you want, huh? I thought so. Currently known character (ie, the ones the story has told you about) Nanoha = Alucard Name: Three Thousand Four Hundred and Eighteen Recommended Reading/Viewing Materials: (See Primary Crossovers) Grimdark Battlefield Rhapsody - 25.09.2009 Grimdark Battlefield Rhapsody is probably the dark horse of my stories, at least from my point of view. It was never meant to be a big thing; I wrote the first chapter as a one-shot challenge on a forum, and never really intended to expand on it. I just put it up here, on FF.net, as a way to archive it, and was positively bowled away by the number of hits it generated. Well, when I noticed that it was selling... that is, racking up hits like hot-cakes, I immediately realised that I had stumbled onto a good thing, and promptly planned it out as a proper story. I refuse to either confirm or deny rumours that I danced like a happy-little skull-covered grimdark leprechaun. Name: Grimdark Battlefield Rhapsody Recommended Reading/Viewing Materials: The Ciaphas Cain novels, the Haruhi Suzumiya anime/light novels. Duh. The Good Omens of Haruhi Suzumiya- 25.09.2009 This is sort of the red-haired step-child of the main three fics; it was going to be more important, but Grimdark Battlefield Rhapsody, with its unexpected popularity, sort of left it writhing on the ground, clutching its testicles as Grimdark stole its wallet and Aeon Natum Engel did nothing to help. Maybe it was because it's the only fic which isn't composed of three words; I'm not saying that this is a factor, I'm just saying we need to see the truth. Nevertheless, it will continue. Maybe when Grimdark stops hogging all my writing Name: The Good Omens of Haruhi Suzumiya Unity is Hollow25.09.2009 This is the more recent of my two pre-Aeon Natum Engel fics. They're mostly here for archival purposes, as well as a way to see how my writing has improved. It's unlikely that they'll be updated. The way I was going, it was likely that this was going to, once the two humanities had met, to involve the evacuation of as many UNSC assets from the Haloverse as was possible, before they sealed the door behind them, and then it was going to be focussed on the political turmoil that followed from the introduction of a powerful, independent Human force into the Citadel society. Name: Unity is Hollow Bearers of Dune - 25.09.2009 And this is the second. What's really notable about this one is that I pulled in far too many universe, rather than just having the two. The initial plan was to have the Star Wars plots affected by the Dune setting. And there was almost certainly going to be a Bene Gesserit half-sibling to Leia and Luke running around later, because you just know that the Sisterhood would do that if they heard about a "Chosen One". They know all about "Chosen Ones". Name: Bearers of Dune | |||||||
