I have several favorite novels and stories. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien, All of Jane Austen's books but especially Pride and Prejudice. Science Fiction by Halderman, Clarke, Dick, Asimov, Silverberg,Heinlein ( except Podkayne of Mars, hate that tale), Norton, CJ Cherryh and many others. I ,of course, love all things Star Trek; the books, TV episodes and movies. The only exception is "Enterprise". I saw one episode and it worked as a great sleeping pill. The other great love in entertainment for me is The XFiles. But I'm going to outrage all shippers by saying that I've never liked Scully. I liked Phoebe, even though she was a cad and even Diana, although she was a 'witch', but not Dana. In this show the only love interest who deserves Mulder is Skinner, IMHO. Heresy! I plead guilty. It's the only slash I will read. So back to Trek. I love the characters of Spock, Kirk and McCoy but not Trek-slash. I'll read Spock/Uhura, Kirk/Uhura even McCoy/Uhura. Chapel wasn't a favorite, but Number One was. I liked Seven of Nine, Captains Janeway,Picard, and Sisko, Kira Nerys, Judzia Dax, Data, Tuvok and Worf. I appreciated the new movie Star Trek 2009 a lot. It wasn't prefect but it's the only 2009 DVD I'm looking forward to buying. Except perhaps Californication Season 2 although after seeing it, I would sell it. I cannot imagine having relatives discover it among my effects. I no longer watch TV. Stopped watching even news in Feb 2009. I've never seen Lost, Heroes, Desperate Housewives or most of the shows people reference. I've heard of them because I listen to NPR and CSpan radio. Recently, I've discovered that I dislike Trek fic that eviscerates the character of Uhura. I've never seen her represented as some long suffering, head shaving, heartbroken, flower arranging ultra feminine female, until now. Uhura was never characterized that way in TOS trek, nor has she been pictured that way in 2009 trek. Yet here it is. It's disgusting. | |||||||
