What is a fan fic to you all? Is it a story? Is it something someone wrote? Actually, to me, a fan fic is a piece of literature, no matter how it is written, (script, traditional, chat log, etc.) that has to do with what you made up about something else that has already been made.

Fan fiction has been around for a long time, before the internet days. Ever since the first day that a book, tv show, cartoon, anime or what ever was made, fan fiction was made too. And fan fiction writers have been free to do what they want with their creations since the beggining. If it was good, then it was okay, if it was bad, it was okay, if it was threatening or hurtful, (not that I support that.) it was okay, because it was free, it was something everyone does once in their life time.

To me, a fan fiction is a creation someone put time and life into, and made a story, what ever format, and brought joy and happiness to others. And most of the time, laughter at the jokes, or the stupidity, or maybe just something that made you giggle slightly.

But when the internet was born, so was Fanfiction.net. It was a great time, because finally, people around the world, could read the epic, terrible, autrocious (I spelled that wrong! XD), romanced, smutted, lemoned, limed, fluffed, horrored, sci-fied creations people made! And most of the time, people are praised, sometimes, people are flamed, or worse, trolled.

But all in all, fanfiction.net to me is a place that the stories that people made, either on a whim or planned, are being sent out around the world, to be enjoyed by others. Isn't that what fan fiction is all about? To make your own story and/or share it with others? To me, yeah.

So, if you decide to read and review a story, you could give praise, constructive critisim, flames, whatever, you can. Because you're free to do that, just like how fan fiction is free. Fan fiction doesn't need rules, except for these:

1. Please be respectful to other users of the fanfiction.net community.

2. Be nice to others.

3. Do not claim you have written copy righted material first.

4. If you wish to use an idea from someon else, ask first, do not steal and claim you were there first.

Simple. Easy to understand. That's how fanfiction has been for a long tim before the actual website was made. Except the 1st one, because that one is actually directed to the online version of fanfiction!

But really, the rules are too complicated now. Now, we can't have interactive stories, because that is a violation of the fan fiction modern rules. Why? I don't know. But that type of fan fiction is the best kind, because to the readers, it feels as if we are contributing to something really wonderful. And being a part of somthing that has made you laugh, cry, smile, feel warm inside, or whatever you're feeling, makes you happy. It does for me.

Also, if the person writing the story puts themself in the story, then that means they are assionate about the story or they are passionate about the actual thing they are writing about. There is nothing wrong with that. Other people often do that, and I see them having a blast with it. And alot of the time, other people enjoy reading those too because they see the writier interacting with the characters, it's another way to spread the emotions of the story to other people.

Other stories, in script format, it doesn'tmatter what is it written like, as long as there is a story or actual plot line going on, then I'm happy. Actually, I like script format, because to me, it's like imagining a TV show and you're watching it unfold in front of you. Granted, you can do that with other stories, but to me, it feels a little better doing that with a script format. That's my own personal opinion, but really the choice is up to you on which type you like to read the most.

And that's another thing I like about a fan fiction, they are completely random. No two fics are the same, each one has it's own charm. Each fic was made by a different person with different feelings embedded into them. And that is the fun part, not only do you read a person's own unique writing style, you also get to read the unique story that this person has made.

So I ask again, what is a fan fic? To me, a fan fic is something that a person made to represent their own feelings into a story about another thing that was already made. Fan fics spread good laughs, good times, and plenty of emotions to everyone who reads it.

So there, that is my answer, but what is yours? What do you, the reader, think about fan fics? No answer is wrong, the only answers that you give, are always right.

And again, I believe fan fics are free, and should have a least amount of rules as possible. Fan fics are simple and old, but they are the one thing people in this community have in common.

(I don't know if this counts as a rant, but hell, it feels like one to me!)

Also, United Critics, I don't despise what you do, but at the same time, I don't approve. You don't need to go all text book like and bring out the rules on people that are clearly spreading joy and happiness or whatever emotion that the people want and/or feel.

There is no need of you guys to be like that, why can't you just enjoy the stories like the others? Why do you continue to attack other people for what they do with an age-old tradition? Why? I understand if you bring out the rles when someone says a complaint or says that person is writing bad things with their fic, I understand.

But another thing to consider, it the rating, if it is K, then okay, go for it. K, it is a little more mature, T, it's for teenagers, so you have to expect that things are getting a bit raunchy, but just a bit. M ratings, you have to expect, they are there for the mature readers, so they are seperated for a reason. M ratings, they are the most brutal, or most smut filled ones out there. (unless there are no lemons or limes, all depends on what the fc contains)

Also, the descriptions say alot in the small amount of words, if it says, WARNING: contains things that may be hurtful or not intended for young readers, then hell, they gave you a warning. Because they don't want some random person to go in and start saying things at the stuff in the fic. If they read the fic and they don't read the description and/or rating, then they have no room to complain. Simple as that.

And lastly, I'm not saying, go out in the web and destroy all the fics that VIOLATE the rules, no, don't go searching for them, but at the same time, consider the reviews, if they say nothing but good things, (or a majority) then maybe there is nothing wrong with the fic, even if is does VIOLATE the precious rules. But if the reviews say that the fic is bad, (majority) then hell, have fun pulling the rules out and have at them. But it depends on the reviews, if it is half and half, then read the fic yourselves and see for yourself if it is that bad.
