The Everybody Lives Alternate Universe Community (in which no one dies in The Last Battle) (Link to the community is in my Live Journal).

I have been writing fiction, derivative and original, for about 20 years and in real life am a fast and furious technical writer of very dull non-fiction material. I am currently writing mostly in the Narnia fandom as this is one place my children and their friends (and parents) are not frequenting. To be upfront, this vision is not my children's Narnia and may not be yours. I am an adult, writing adult characters for an adult reader. This is Narnia for grown ups.

As of September 2011, I began delving into Doctor Who (new), Temeraire, and Star Wars. Links are in my Livejournal.

A Key to the people and places of The Queen Susan In Tashbaan is at my livejournal account at: http://rthstewart.livejournal.com/2894.html.

The Stone Gryphon relies heavily upon research and each chapter is typically footnoted with source material and commentary in my livejournal. At some point during The Queen Susan in Tashbaan, the story took a turn toward historical fiction. Rat and Sword Go To War is true historical fiction in which Peter and Susan both are involved in a pivotal event of the D-Day invasion. If you spot a glaring error, let me know. If I can, I will fix it.

If you find diving into the stories that have preceded it too daunting, you can try this short cut http://rthstewart.livejournal.com/30663.html

I posted in my Live Journal an answer to some of the questions Susan and Peter ponder in Chapter 8 of Apostolic Way. Specifically, they consider what really happened after the departure of the Four based upon the very spotty record that would have been available in Caspian's time, the transition plan they had in place, and who was left behind to carry it out. I have hinted at a lot of this before, but this story is the first time I set it down and it is how the Harold and Morgan story would have ended. Acceptance of the Terms is here, http://rthstewart.livejournal.com/39161.html

A word about reading order, since some people have asked. You can just go to my LJ, http://rthstewart.livejournal.com/30663.html, and skim the important bits. Otherwise, it depends on whether you prefer the Narnia side, the Spare Oom side, or both, though the two are highly related and indeed the point that Narnia is relevant to Spare Oom is a thematic element of the work, so Narnia does show up in flashback in the Spare Oom part of the story.

On the Narnia side, you have, in chronological order:
The Palace Guard
By Royal Decree (though By Royal Decree was written first, so a lot of people prefer to read it first and then go back to The Palace Guard if they are interested in the Guards. I think a lot of folks find Palace Guard a bit dull as it is very heavy on the worldbuilding).
Chapter 1 of It’s The Thought That Counts
Black as Rat and Crow
Harold and Morgan: Not A Romance
Acceptance of the Terms (In my Live Journal)
The Horse and her Girl

I love not man the less but nature more is, chronologically the first, but I recommend reading it later. The great bonding with Narnia that it describes crops up throughout TSG.

On the Spare Oom side you have, in chronological order,
The Stone Gryphon, Part 1, Oxfordshire 1942
Chapter 2, It’s The Thought That Counts
The Stone Gryphon, Part 2, The Queen Susan in Tashbaan
The Stone Gryphon, Part 3, Apostolic Way (in progress)
Rat and Sword Go T War

I personally think that before you start Part 2 of The Queen Susan in Tashbaan, it's a good idea to at least skim By Royal Decree and a little bit of Harold and Morgan (even though unfinished) because there’s a lot that happens there, especially in terms of Edmund’s story, that is relevant. The Palace Guard is relevant to the Good Beasts and Royal Guard and other personalities who crop up throughout The Stone Gryphon. I don't have many true surprises but one of them is spoiled in Chapter 2 of the It's The Thought that Counts so you might want to read Chapter 14 of The Stone Gryphon, Part 1, Oxfordshire 1942 first.

Stories outside this (intended to be) cohesive vision are:
Under Cover
The Maenad of the Maquis
Unquenchable Fire

Follow The Star
Food for Thought by jess_in_time, a fictional Live Journal that is a slightly different spin on the "modern girl falls into Narnia" story. Jess travels to England with her father to deal with the final details after the death of her great grandmother. This was written for the 2011 Narnia Fic Exchange. (Link is in my Live Journal)

In my Live Journal you will also see links to comment fic, AU material, and some other things that are not ready for prime time. Included is a remix of Metonomia's She Maintained This Estate, entitled Carrying out my design to shatter the enemies, posted at Archive of Our Own -- an AU version of Susan and Rabadash borrowing from the Book of Judith.

A lovely article by Lev Grossman on the glory of fan fiction was posted recently in Time magazine. Grossman writes: [Fan fiction is] also an intensely social, communal activity. Like punk rock, fan fiction is inherently inclusive, and people spend as much time hanging out talking to one another about it as they do reading and writing it."

This passage encapsulates beautifully my belief in fan fiction as an ongoing conversation among writers, readers, and betas. I hugely value the interaction and the relationships. Some of my dearest real life friends today I met while writing fan fic in the early 1990s. I'm glad to discuss these stories or anything else in PMs, email or on my LJ. I have enabled anonymous posting here and on LJ. I usually will respond to anonymous reviews on my LJ, tag anonymous reviewers. Further, while positive commentary is the aspiration, I'd rather hear something negative than nothing at all and even a review that states: "ick" lets me know that you are still here, if unhappy about it. As a perusal of reviews will show you, I don't delete the negative, either.

Readers will sometimes observe that I very seldom provide physical descriptions of characters. My inability to write visually is well-documented and my reaction to visuals is a source of humor in some circles. I don't "cast." To provide what I so sorely lack, the amazing Anastigmat has photoshopped some pictures and captions for the Narnia 'verse and she's included OCs from these stories. You can find them on her Live Journal and she's on my Friends List as anastigmatfic on Live Journal. Anastigmat's work is terrific and her stories are must reads. Anastigmat has written a sequel of sorts to Acceptance of Terms, entitled Deny the Child also on her Live Journal.

With gratitude and admiration to the creator of The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis, and the other content creators from whose work I develop my derivative fiction. I claim no ownership interest whatsoever in any derivative fiction I write. Any original content in my derivative fiction is in the public domain and may be used freely and without notice to me or attribution.
