Author has written 24 stories for All Creatures Great and Small. Hello all, Thought I'd add yet another "Cover my ass" disclaimer. The basic idea of ACGAS of course belongs to james Herriot (Alf Wight). Although the original series was written by, and about real people, the characters I have in mind when I write, I consider fictional. They are an amalgamation of the real people, the portrayals of the TV series, and even the personalities of the actors themselves. That being said, I do try to keep the bits about the animals as true to life as possible. And, of course, none of it's for profit. (Oh, by the way, I'm 47 and live in the US. I like outdoor sports, horseback riding, reading, history, science, psychology, and of course, Robert Hardy and ACGAS. The one thing I can't stand is people who dish out "the silent treatment" when they're upset. If you have an issue, take a tip from Siegfried Farnon and address it!) Someone asked if I have vet training. Well, no, but I do have some experience with animals, and I do some research. A few of the events have their roots in personal experience of some sort (I did indeed give our German Shepherd toothpaste when I was a kid, and a friend who runs a shelter did find a home for an inept Border Collie, chasing geese off a property). The idea for a prequel came from Chinoise, who suggested that some back stories might fill in various gaps in the TV series. Hence, "Wounds That Never Heal" addresses the observation from several people that Helen and Siegfried seem to share some sort of special bond in the series (not going anywhere near an "illicit affair theme"). "Fits and Starts" imagines Tristan just ready to start vet school, and adjusting to living with his warm but irascible big brother. Why write stories that don't include James? Because many of you seem as fascinated as I with the relationship, and the interplay, between the two brothers. But I am keeping those stories separate from the stories that adhere to "canon". The prequels will be tagged with the subtitle "Before They Were Three" unless you can think of something better. Update October, 2009 "Here There Be Dragons" will be drawing to a close, probably around Christmas. It's turned into a novelette by now, but I don't want to drag it out too long. Besides, I'm still juggling some other writing projects, including "Memory Of Water" over at fictionpress.com, as well as teaching myself to draw and paint (in the hopes of illustrating some of these stories some day).
