Author has written 14 stories for Fanfiction Poetry, Lord of the Rings, and Silmarillion. What's there to tell? BA Phil, lifelong Tolkien fan, would like a job getting paid to read sf — and just waiting for them to finally discover Atlantis. ---- What is a flame? A flame is an insult, (ie, "You're stupid!" or "This is garbage!") which is not relevant to the subject under discussion (ie, fanfiction, here) and does not offer any explanation as to why this opinion is being expressed. What is *not* a flame? Pointing out, kindly *or* harshly, factual errors, gross implausibilities, abysmal writing skills, and other incoherencies. This is known as a negative review. Any authors not prepared to get these, shouldn't be putting their work out in public and especially shouldn't be asking for feedback - and certainly never think of going pro. ---- 7/12/03 Script updated to Scene V.xiv - also, there will likely be a Part II for the nonfiction "Real Idiot's Guide" over on Odd Lots in a little while (aka "Why They Call It The *Hidden* City") and I may start posting some of the fanfic- related rants over on Fictionpress, since they have most kindly allowed an Essay category... 6/30/03 Script Update, Scenes V.vii-x. Changes. 6/25/03 Script update - Scenes V.iii-vi. Serious stuff. 6/8/03 Double Script update to make up for involuntary GAFIA delays - Scene V.i - ii, and Notes completed through Scene IV. If you can't get to them here yet, you know the drill - check Odd Lots through the link above. Also a newish short rant on writing canonical romance there and I think some other stuff since last update here. ----- Protectors of the Plot Continuum and some of the exiled spinoffs (including Architeuthis' Intelligence Briefs for the PPC) may be found for the present at Odd Lots also. We now have our own posting board - you can suggest targets there. http://ppc.oddlots.digitalspace.net ----- If you liked Harpwire's Orc story, it's back. Visit Wunderlust's page - and then read the new series, 'Molly Halfwits', the story of a strange young woman with no skills, language or otherwise, who appears one day in Bree... ---- As a public service, I have listings of canon fics I enjoy in my favorite authors/favorite stories pages. Check 'em out. Enjoy. ---- | |||||||||
