Hatts here (Real name is obviously not Hatts. I just wear a lot of hats because I have Alopecia Areata, so it makes a good name. Plus I thought it was cute.) Thought I would share some good stuff with everyone. Bookworms have an obligation to broadcast the best of the best, so here it is: Michelle Sagara’s Chronicles of Elantra: Cast in Shadow; Cast in Courtlight; Cast in Secret; Cast in Fury; Cast in Silence; Cast in Chaos;Cast in Ruin; Cast in Peril (coming soon) Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniels Series: Magic Bites; Magic Burns; Magic Strikes; Magic Bleeds Kristen Britain’s Green Rider Series: Green Rider; Rider's First Call; High King's Tomb; Blackveil (So many things I disliked about this last book. If you read this, I suggest immediately going to 'Of Moombeams and Heraldry' by Leirah on Fanfiction. It's the only thing I've found that's made the ending bearable). Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series: Halfway to the Grave; One Foot in the Grave; At Grave's End; Destined for an Early Grave; This Side of the Grave Jennifer Rardin’s Jaz Parks Series: Once Bitten, Twice Shy; Another One Bites the Dust; Biting the Bullet; Bitten to Death; One More Bite; Bite Marks;Bitten in Two; The Deadliest Bite Terry Pratchett's Discworld Series, specifically the Tiffany Aching arc: Wee Free Men; A Hat Full of Sky; Wintersmith;I Shall Wear Midnight (Next to Tamora Pierce, this might be the best young adult series I have ever read. Seriously. The series is dynamic, silly, whimsical, witty, genuine, and 'oh my god, I just bust a gut laughing my ass off' hilarious all at the same time. Read it. It will take one weekend and you will lose all stress just by turning the pages. You won't regret it. In fact... Go read these pages. They made me laugh even harder: Nac Mac Feegles: They are six inches tall and carry swords that glow blue when lawyers are near. This is what convinced me to pick up these books. Are you smiling? Good. Death (Discworld): Read this, especially the part about his horse, Binky. Yes. Death rides a horse named Binky. And that should tell you everything you need to know about this series. Auditors of Reality: They keep things like gravity in check and they hate imagination, because suddenly imagination can turn a shadow into the most terrifying monster ever... and that just can't happen in reality. Love these Dudes.) Jane Lindskold’s Firekeeper Saga: Through Wolf's Eyes; Wolf's Head, Wolf's Heart; Dragon of Despair; Wolf Captured; Wolf Hunting; Wolf's Blood (I must admit the end is weird, which is why I ceased reading this series. Around the fourth book, it deviates from 'wolf-girl learning society, battling evil' to 'wolf-girl and friends take off through alternate dimensions where human becomes not human and girl falls in love with animal and they run away together...') Alice Borchardt’s Silver Wolf (this is a single novel, and while it is a part of a trilogy, this book can easily stand alone and most likely should; her other books aren’t really worth mentioning in my opinion. That said, there is a sequel. The one previous to it doesn't even mention the main character in this book, but includes her love interest.) Alma Alexander’s Hidden Queen and Changer of Days (great world development, great character development -- love the ending). Jeri Smith-Ready’s Voice of Crow Series: Eyes of Crow; Voice of Crow; The Reawakened (Hated the last book -- I would avoid it if I were you and pretend it doesn't exist) Tamora Pierce’s… well, anything. She’s amazing. I personally like her first three series the most: the Song of the Lioness, the Immortals, and the Protector of the Small Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Saga: Eragon; Eldest; Brisinger (I read the wikipedia page for the final book and didn't like it -- thoughts? I'll get it from the library this summer and read it before posting it here.) L.A. Meyer’s Bloody Jack Series: Bloody Jack; Curse of the Blue Tatoo; Under the Jolly Roger; In the Belly of the Bloodhound; Mississippi Jack; My Bonny Light Horseman; (and more, but I haven't read them...) Rachel Vincent’s Werecat Series: Stray; Rogue; Pride; Prey (Ugh. After this, the character makes bad choices, matures in reverse, and ends up being rewarded for horrible behavior. Drop this series.) Barb and J.C. Hendee’s Noble Dead Saga: Dhampire; Thief of Lives; Sister of the Dead; Traitor to the Blood; Rebel Fay; Child of a Dead God; (the rest aren't really worth it because the series branches off with my least favorite character as the lead, completely droping the other two characters). And I’ll give you more if I can find them. In the meantime, I'll be writing (not fanfiction -- I write my own stuff) and reading and working hard at college. Favorite Pairings (with pictures, because pictures rock): Tamora Pierce - Numair or Numair (I can't decide which I like more)/Daine, Rosto/Beka (Hate it that this pairing didn't work out!!) Star Trek - Kirk/Spock Chronicles of Elantra - Nightshade/Kaylin: the book clearly states that Kaylin is by no means "beautiful", so if you look at other pictures of Eva Green the actress I believe resembles Kaylin, you will notice that she is gorgeous, but in a way that suggests beauty in a "she has a captivating face" way, not the hollywood "just got my nose and lips done" way. Just look at her eyes. And the shape of her face I think fits Kaylin -- very strong, able to fall easily into the beat cop persona. Love her. Best of wishes, and a big thank you to all of my favorite fanfic authors out there -- you fill my time with endless enjoyment! Hatts | |||||||
