Author has written 8 stories for X-Men: The Movie, Blade, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Naruto. Hello all!! I'm Royal Flush Short A King (RFSAK), you can call me Shay or pretty much anything else you can think of- I'm not picky. I'm in my late teens-early twentys and am a student of Business at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. I've been writing fanfiction in its many incarnations on and off since my formative years focusing my earlier efforts on anime. I have, however, recently found that it's easier to connect with and create situations and characters for movie fanfiction. I enjoy long walks on the beach, puppies and potatoes. My friends consider me "down-to-earth" or pragmatic, and I have been noted for my sarcasm and my feminist, slightly liberal, leanings. Do not be alarmed, however, since everything they say about me is slightly, if not mostly, false. I write for fun not profit, which makes sense seeing as (1) I'm bored 99.9 and 1/2 percent of the time and (2) only the moderately deranged would think to pay me for my moderately deranged flights of fancy. Here are some absolutely, without a doubt, completely and totally vital pieces of info about me: (1) I love music... and hate silence as a general rule. Therefore I do nary a thing without out background noise of some kind. This of course, bleeds heavily into what I write seeing as music has a major effect on my mood. (2) I'm a movie buff and I give brownie points to people who catch my pop culture allusions. (3) I'm also a history nut, so if I'm working on anything that has even an iota of history to it, I will sacrifice canon to be as historically accurate as possible. Likewise I personally avoid fanfiction that isn't historically correct and if an author decides to beat me to the punch by adding that ever present disclaimer "Screw History I doesn't fit with my 'vision,'" I won't read any further, same goes with canon. Personally I think that if an author can't come up with a creative way around canon/history-based roadblocks, it shows a lack of well... creativity and thought. What I hate even more than those who disregard canon, are those who take fan-facts or 'fanon' as actual canon. Example: never, ever, ever, ever in Yu Yu Hakusho does it say that Hiei likes ice cream and calls it 'sweet snow.' Cute idea and definitely has potential to lead to awkward and downright hilarious moments. But it's still not canon. And even if it was the idea that people could blackmail the Jaganshi, the Wielder of the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, the FORBIDDEN CHILD with a tub of frozen sugar and dairy products, is silly. If you doubt this, go on Youtube and watch the episodes and OVAs. (4) I'm an OC writer, I confess. I just love adding a character into a situation. They don't need to be extraordinary, in fact I perfer to write 'weak' characters that are changed irrecoverably by the situation, that show that strength can be internal rather than just physical. I tend to write and prefer to read these characters more than the typical 'Xena warrior princess' types of characters that run into a situation, vanquish the enemy, get the guy and live happily ever after. That's boring, flawed characters with vulnerablities and hang-ups are so much fun. (5) I hate mary-sues almost as much as I hate canon-defilers. And for those that think that all OCs are mary-sues, while you are definitely entitled to your opinion, I simply must disagree. An author that can write a good OC is just as talented if not more so than someone who writes canon characters well. It's just as hard and you have less to work with and more room for error when writing an OC. That being said an author who writes mary-sues, gives OC writers a bad name, because they don't think outside of the box, oftentimes defile canon, and overthink some things, while completely ignoring other things. This is really prevalent in anime fanfiction where OCs oftentimes are demons with tri-colored hair and ten-thousand different strengths and powers, and a psycho ex. They almost always sacrifice themselves or the character they are paired with sacrifices himself in the midst of some great epic battle. While that's all well and good and makes for an interesting story, you have to work really hard to write something like that well. That and it's already been done, something in that equation must be new. Instead of focusing so much on looks (which are normally just weird, not cool or hot,) one should focus on characterization. Give a brief explanantion of what the character looks like and move on. I don't need to be reminded that the character's blue, orange, and black hair is beautiful and wavy and perfect, five or six times a chapter. (6) I do however love people and fanfiction. (7) I slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night. And that's pretty much turning a frown upside-down. Onward! Current Projects: Papercut: HieixOC. This was ironically inspired by the song Papercut by Linkin Park, which will actually have very little bearing on the plot of the story. It's just whenever I listen to that song I think of this woman who feels trapped and surrounded and like there is no one who can or will help her. I also think of what it feels like to have a paper-cut, and the fact that you could be injured and bleeding and not know it until it stings. I think that this is where I'm going with this story. Hitomi is the trapped woman, she is Papercut by Linkin Park and Hiei is the one with the paper-cut (Hitomi.) When I was writing the preliminary stuff for this story, I was reading alot of fiction with really strong OCs for Hiei, which is awesome but I wanted to do something different, so I choose to make Hitomi alot weaker than Hiei, both mentally and phyically (This will be more apparent in later chapters... I hope) Finished: Chemistry: X-men (Origins-Movieverse) Wade WilsonXOC I was hoping to explore the many ways chemistry can manifest itself in a person's life through Samantha. For those who have read the story, the most obvious manifestation of chemistry is in her chosen profession and her mutation, then it continues in the way she interacts with the people around her, namely Wade (later Deadpool.) I don't know if it was as obvious as I had hoped, but still I think that I'm satisfied with it. Caged: Naruto ShikaXOC I'm hoping that I effectively conveyed the idea of love as a coping mechanism, a comfort, a way of grasping a small amount of paradise within one's normally hectic reality. I.E. The caged bird motif, I'm thinking of further exploring this in a Neji/Tenten one-shot..but it's terribly over used in that couple. I don't think people ever see Shikamaru as a caged bird, mostly because during the series he doesn't see himself as a caged bird. But I can definitely see him developing this crushing sense of responsibility, this realization of living within two separate reaities: the 'work' reality and the reality he wants to live, the 'cloud watching' reality as it were. Honoka therefore acts as the rust on the cage, melding these two realities together, in that her, Chouji and Ino are always there to ease his work reality, making it more like his 'cloud watching' reality...I realize this makes very little sense... very existential I suppose... Things that float in my mind: I'm thinking on a KankuroXOC because I love him dearly, I think he's a fun character who doesn't get the credit and attention he deserves... I'll flesh this idea out more as I get closer to the end of Caged I also have a couple Naruto one-shots in the works, but those will come out as I finish them. | |||||||||||
