My Fics

I am a humongous lover of all things folklore, particularly old Scandinavian, Russian and British tales. I also study Medieval and Scottish History, and Anthropology, so most of my work (my latest fics anyway) are based on my research, particularly my Harry Potter fics. Unfortunately I don't have as much time to write as I used to due to university and in summer I'm usually off trekking mountains for quirky folktales and weird happenings, but I promise to write all of these down one day!

2009 Current Projects: My main project is a Post Deathly Hallows Harry Potter, Twin Vice Paranormal Detectives, featuring Fred, George and Luna Lovegood, and takes up a heck of a lot of my time, but I love it dearly and have so much fun researching it. It's based on several different mythological tales, folklore, and fairytales such as the Winter Queen, Red Riding Hood, The Three Surgeons, Ragnarok, The Erl King, The Well at World's End, The Boy who Drew Cats and the World Tree. I have a tremendous time writing it as it encompasses all my greatest loves. Thank you to everyone out there who has taken the time to read, review or draw art for it - I can't even begin to express how much it means to me. And huge thanks to my Beta Reader StringofPearls and to my co-writer Caith, without whom there'd basically be no story.

Never in my life have I: had a brilliant idea sober.

My university is: like something out of Hogwarts and situated on the east coast of Scotland. There is a castle, the ruins of the largest cathedral in Britain, a huge beach, and you can just see Bellrock Lighthouse from the shore (it's terrifying - Kat and I are positive Azkaban Prison was based on it).

When I’m nervous: I drink beer, sing out of tune and wear pants on my head, which is incidentally why I fail every class presentation.

When I was 4: I was plotting world domination. No, seriously. I had blueprints for a giant dino-bot. I showed them to my teacher and she kicked me out the class. Typical Scottish education system - wholly against encouraging genius. Of course, that was the same teach who kicked me out of class and gave my a punny for smiling too much. Cow.

Last Christmas: I nearly set the kitchen on fire, blamed it on Xi, had a massive party and for once the tree didn't fall on my head. Hurrah!

I should be: writing, studying Malthus' theories on population growth, avoiding spending more than I earn, donating to charity, behaving like poised, cool, ice-queen instead of dancing in front of the mirror in new undies to old sixties motown. But alas! It cannot be.

The happiest recent event was: completing the West Highland Way for charity (a 95 mile hike through the Scottish wilderness).

By this time next year: I'll be blowing my new years' resolutions out of the water. Again. And likely preparing the pre-exam-noose or rolling out of some art student's bed (who had seemed, the night before, like one of those attractively disheveled bohemian activists, but in the morning is just disheveled).

My current gripe is: the weather. I'm British, it is my civic duty to gripe.

I have a hard time understanding: most things. Especially rubix cubes.

The world could do without: Post Deathly Hallows Canon, canon-fanatics, misogynists, alcoholics, neds, chavs, preps, Bush, cookery programs, self-help books, critics, fuck-wits, cynics, emos, freeloaders, daytime TV and Kiera Knightley.

I am a supporter of the Sober Universe (SU)

I refuse to believe that JKR's recent revelations regarding post-DH ships are canon. I subscribe to the Sober Universe where we can use our imaginations to decide who ended up with who, and where my version is as true as yours.

JKR has given us a wonderful universe to play with, but she has finished writing the books. Either she should have given us a decent epilogue to DH, telling us what we wanted to know, rather than what we could have guessed, or she should have kept her ideas about post-DH events, ships and names to herself. It is my personal belief that if she had actually tried to write any of the ships that are now "canon" (particularly George/Angelina), she would see that they do not work.

I am aware that, by its very nature, fanfiction is not "canon", and cannot ever truly be canon. However, for those who showed enough respect to Jo Rowling to make every effort to keep their fics in line with her vision - some of her recent decisions have been rather disappointing. Had she included any or all of this information at the end of Deathly Hallows, that would have been wonderful - I'm sure many of us would have preferred a more fully complete edition of the Epilogue, which we were not afforded. I love the universe Jo gave us in first seven books (though perhaps a little less of the sixth, for those who know my works), but beyond hardback canon, the only canon I stick to, if it isn't AU, will be SU canon.

Favourite Characters to Write

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars): He is, without a doubt in my mind, the strongest character in Star Wars. For all that he goes through, his sense of duty and loyalty remains constant. He is not a two dimensional character, unlike some, and hey I love a fine growth of hair on a man's chin!

Jeice (DBZ): Haha, I know, Obi-Wan's polar opposite. Jeice is such a douche. He's the short orange guy with the glam rock hairdo in the Ginyu Force. He's such a fun-loving character - quite Han Solo-ish, only far more perverted. His character is too cool and laid back to be bothered by little problems i.e. he'd rather drink a beer and scratch himself than write deep soul searching poetry. He'd piss all over emos.

The Weasley Twins (Harry Potter): I love these pranksters. Hell, how can you not love them? Less evil than Jeice, but far more cunning. And I'm glad JKR's finally come out and said that they are in fact quite different (Fred = evil -- George = less evil).

Pairings I Don't Support: GeorgexAngelina, FredxAngelina, NevillexLuna. Don't get me wrong, I don't go out of my way to flame or have a go at people for liking these pairings. It's just my personal taste.

Re-Fredding Fred Weasley

I think everyone who knows me knows that I'm no fan of what happened in the last book (or the last two books, to be honest). I've always felt that by bumping off Fred, JK took away the heart of the Weasleys and therefore winning the war felt like an empty victory. For the Weasleys to have survived intact would have strengthened the series' underlying message, but as it is I feel like I read seven books for bugger all. Anyway, I could rant on and on, but long rant cut short, I had to do something drastic and after reading a friend's fanfic, Fox Ears by The Starhorse, I announced a Re-Fredding Day which will take place on MAY 9TH. Everyone professing to be a Fred Weasley fan has to do something for it, be it pranking, writing a Re-Fredding fic or Fanart, making a music video, journal icon - anything! RULES: The most important rule: Absolutely NO angst. None whatsoever. You will be sneered at, shunned and egged if you dare post anything remotely angsty and Un-Twinish. Stories and art can feature other characters but they must have a Re-Fredding theme (i.e. stories that bring Fred back to life or ignore his death altogether).

Canon Fanatics please keep in mind that I will crack you over the head with my big Scottish club of wrath if you hound me with your 'ish'not canon, moan, whine moan'. You may have noticed that there are nine published books of canon info, JK's website and another Encyclopedia of canonness coming out in a few years. Content yourself with those. Whether some people choose to flip the finger in the face of canon is no concern of yours. Sorry, but I've had so many irritating comments about this - basically, Re-Fredding is just a bit of fandom fun. Remember that not everyone is happy to agree with JKR's canon - we all make our own, so please stop taking it so seriously guys.

Harry Potter Fics I'm Writing

Twin Vice Paranormal Detectives: My main HP fanfic. This fic was started as an antidote to Fred's untimely un-Fredding in Deathly Hallows. Beta-read by the wonderful BloodRayne & StringofPearls, and devised with the aid of my brilliant mate Caith, this fic is currently my favourite obsession. Taking place five years after the events of the Battle of Hogwarts, Fred (now a ghost, the reason for which remains a mystery, even unto himself) and George purchase an old house in London, Islington - one that harbors a terrible curse and an ancient secret regarding Salazar Slytherin and his mother, Gudrun, the Snow-Walker. If you're into mystery, history and old folktales, this fic's for you! =D

Hells' Bells: The Prequel to "Twin Vice Paranormal Detectives", chronicling the events surrounding the Weasley twins, Luna Lovegood, Detective Nox and the Grim Reaper before the climatic Battle of Hogwarts against Voldemort and his forces.

Less Bread! More Taxes!: 100 short Twin Vice drabbles. Death comes to us all. When he came to Fred and George, they offered him a job. Musings of the Weasley twins, the Grim Reaper, a Muggle Detective and a Lovegood.

Ouroboros: I guess this is kind of a prequel to the prequel. Ouroboros details the Hogwarts Founders' history and the wars they fought against the Unseelie Court and Salazar Slytherin's mother, the Winter Witch.
