5-7-13 - Summer vacation! Woohoo!

I still can't believe how early this is o_o

Bah. Ever since Prototype 2... I feel like that might have killed the fandom here. Good fics are few and far between, and it seems like most of them are old and rarely updated. Is it really that hard to give Alex decent characterization...?

Fic status:

After the Fires Fade: Ongoing. Still working on this, even if the updates seem a little long in between.

Midnight: Hiatus/dead. Brutally honest, I don't have any plans on picking it up again in the future. I tried a few times, and none got anywhere. I've been considering whether or not I should scrounge through all my old files and notes to compile everything I was going to do; leaving 'AN' chapters aren't really my style, but if anyone cares, I don't like leaving them hanging. :s

KOTORtype: Hiatus. Might add a chapter or so in the vague future, but it's not an active project.

A Dead World: Hitatusy. Ish. On the backburner to After the Fires Fade, but more active than KOTORtype, definitely.

All right, so here's the obligatory self-despcription. My name's Diana. I'm eighteen, and I've been writing since I was nine - although my first attempts are, in retrospect, extremely hilarious to read (From an outsider's point of view. For mine, it involves more cringing). I am a gamer, although I'm one of those esoteric types that's more obsessed about the characters and plot than the gameplay itself. I'm a pretty laid-back person overall, I think... I get nervous when talking to people that a.) I look up to, or b.) look up to me (for whatever reason). I like joking around and being silly; finding people that share my interests is exciting. I am terrified of dating, and I've been stuck in a perpetual 'what am I going to do with my life' crisis for the past few years. My life is internet. I adore the following;

Books - Artemis Fowl, The Mortal Instruments Series, Alex Rider, Harry Potter

Manga - Full Metal Alchemist (manga storyline, not 2003 anime, that was aimless), Bleach... before it got stupid. YMMV on when that was.

Games - Morrowind, Oblivion, LoZ Twilight Princess, most open-ended role-playing games, Runescape (way back when), Forsaken World, Prototype (Not Prototype 2. Characterisation-murdering, dismally unexplained piece of crap. *shakes fist*)

Things I don't like - Prototype 2, vinegar, homework, typoes, getting sick, watching my favorite characters get disgraced, humiliation, trigonometry, mischaracterization, and food that looks really good but tastes awful once you bite into it.

Psychology tip; if you want an author to update and they haven't done so in a while, they might be having a hard time writing the chapter in progress. Review. A nice, detailed review from nowhere will give the author a warm and fuzzy feeling, and remind them that they have fans ardently waiting for them. It's one of the most muse-reinvigorating things you can experience as a writer. And no, I'm not just talking about me here.

Oh, and a quote to write by, from Cpl_Facehugger at Spacebattles. "Guys, just so you know, this story operates on narrative physics. Which means that if character development and physics come into conflict, physics loses."

My favorite characters, in no particular order;

Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl), Wolf Link (LoZ TP), Vicente Valtieri (Oblivion), Janus Hassildor (Oblivion), Edward Elric (FMA), Roy Mustang (FMA), Hollow Ichigo (Bleach), Hirako Shinjii (Bleach), Ulquiorra Cifer (Bleach), Midna (LoZ TP), Holly Short (Artemis Fowl), Envy (FMA), Remus Lupin (HP), Sirius Black (HP), Jace (Mortal Instruments), Alex Mercer (Prototype), Dana Mercer (Prototype), Arcade Gannon (Fallout: New Vegas), Veronica (Fallout: New Vegas), Joshua Graham (Fallout: New Vegas), Atton (KotOR II), Mira (KotOR II)

And lastly, my dear readers. Before you, I make this solemn pledge. Shall I choose to include an OC in a fanfiction story, I swear upon the wholesomeness of my soul that they will not fall into the depravity of Mary Sueism, nor will they take the spotlight from an established character. I am aware that due to the hordes of preteen girls injecting their own fantasy-selves into stories, the name of OCs has been degraded, and they oft send shivers down a prospective reader's spine. Not only am I personally not interesting enough to be put into a fanfiction for anything other than a sarcastic and undriven lazy female in the corner, but I shall fight to restore the glory of original characters when I decide to create one. I will do my utmost to grant every character at least some realistic and tolerable moral dilemma or character flaws. I hereby disavow metaphorically describing a character's eyes as a type of gemstone over ten percent of the time. I maintain that two characters just meeting cannot and should not realistically fall into meaningful and requited love under the span of at least ten chapters, and any such quick-formed relationship will almost invariably fail in its lack of foundation. Lastly, any Mary Sues exist in my writing only to be discredited or killed horribly in satire/every decent author's wishful thinking. Should I break this most important vow, you may turn me into a newt, burn me at the stake, or force me to read Twilight for the rest of my life.
