Author has written 75 stories for Pokemon, Samurai Pizza Cats, Simpsons, Card Captor Sakura, Powerpuff Girls, Legend of Zelda, Mario, Digimon, Mega Man, Game X-overs, Dexter's Laboratory, Land Before Time, Flint: The Time Detective, Disney, Kirby, Digimon/Pokemon, Scooby Doo, Sonic the Hedgehog, Dragon Tales, Misc. Cartoons, Darkstalkers, Care Bears, Grand Theft Auto, Street Fighter, Kingdom Hearts, and Medabots. Hi. I'm Martial Arts Master. I'm into cartoons, anime, and video games, so my fanfics are probably gonna be there. I might do fics in other categories from time to time, though. One thing I will absolutely NOT do under ANY circumstances is write a character-bashing fic. I HATE character-bashing fics. More often than not, people who write character-bashing fics write the characters completely out of character, or they make other characters act completely out of character just to bring about the misfortune or demise of the characters they bash. So I won't do one. Also, considering dubbed anime, I don't think it's as bad as people think. Everyone's saying that some dubbed anime or another sucks, so I seem to be the only one who appreciates how hard it is to dub an anime, and how hard it is to make the culture suit Amercians' tastes. I'm just working on guesswork, and even I can guess how hard it is, what with timing the voices, getting the results past a little thing we call "network censors", etc. People seem to think that dubbers are evil companies who mutilate anime. I say: Stop comparing the dubs to the originals! You'll never be happy comparing them all the time. Why not simply view dubs and the original as completely separate shows? After all, I view dubs as new versions of the Japanese shows, not better OR worse than the originals. After all, Japan gave companies PERMISSION to dub the anime, something not many people consider. How do I know this? If they hadn't, the companies would have been sued for copyright infringement. Simple logic. Of course, these are all just my opinions, and I don't intend to force them on anyone. After all, people have a right to hate dubs just as much as I have a right to like them. I'm only saying that companies like FUNimation, Nelvana, and DiC aren't necessarily as evil as people think. I don't know what goes on behind the scenes, admittedly, but neither do those who bash them! So I have "benefit of the doubt" on my side. There are probably all sorts of business reasons why certain things happen. Market research, core audiences, ratings, blah blah blah. My point is, you obviously have the right to hate dubs; just don't be too fanatical about it. Also, people think that dubbers do not respect Japanese culture when they dub anime. I say that's not true. What with Pokemon recently having stuff like jujitsu, shihans of dojos, and I think there was this one show that had a reference to "wasabi". And Yu-Gi-Oh, of course, actually changed some of the cards' names to Japanese names! And you say dubbers have no respect for the Japanese culture? I say that maybe, just maybe, some people don't have respect for AMERICAN culture! We are not Japanese! It's not our fault that we have different standards for television in Japan. I'm all for no censorship, but that just won't happen in a country where nudity and excessive blood and guts are vilified (I agree with those who say that blood and guts do not necessarily make a good show, though). That's one of the flaws of American culture. Yet the people who bash dubs seem to think that the Japanese have a perfect culture, which is simply not true because NO country has a perfect culture! So why not respect the fact that unless American culture becomes exactly like the Japanese, television standards will always force dubs to be different from the Japanese versions? So to sum it all up, rather than thinking that dubs are better than the Japanese versions, or that dubs are worse than the Japanese versions, I give them equal value because they were both made by two separate, equal countries. And that, I think, is true tolerance. Another thing is that I try to be open-minded. Which means I have absolutely no problem with any sexuality at all. The mere fact that a fic might contain a sexuality most people don't like will not change my opinion of that fic, unlike some less open-minded readers. I also have no problem with hermaphrodites or cross-dressers. Considering favorites, let's see: My favorite Pokemon used to be Jolteon, but with Pokemon Gold/Silver having come out, my favorite is now Wobbuffet. My favorite Digimon is Biyomon. Also, I try to have variety in my fanfics, so I can please everyone. For the sake of variety, I might do something like write a romance that hasn't already been done to death. Finally, I'm a college student now, so I might not have as much time for writing fanfics that I ordinarily would. | |||||||||
