I was reading my former bio earlier today, and realized that it had all of the range and eloquence of a five-year-old, so: My introduction to FF.Net occurred a long time ago, in a suburban New Jersey town not so far away. My real-life best friend (known to to fanfiction world as Poleil_Andromache) told me about the site in relation to our at-the-time-fandom of Tamora Pierce's Tortall Universe books. My first "fic" was penned with said best friend, under the penname of Emsimuffin. (You notice that the title has not been mentioned, and never will be, as the collaboration was the work of two pretentious sixth graders.) But fandom obsessions, like life, fade eventually. Though I occasionally go back and skim through some of Polei's work for laughs (and so that I can tease her relentlessly the next day in school), I have mostly left behind the world of the Daine/Numair, Alanna/Jon, Alanna/George, and Kel/Neal pairings. From Tammy Pierce I moved on to the world of (takes deep breath): Harry Potter to Degrassi: The Next Generation to The Tribe. The Tribe, for those who do not know, is a New Zealand-based television program about a group of children stranded in a world where all of the adults have died from "the virus". This fandom occupied the majority of my thoughts for most of seventh and eighth grade, along with two fic postings. They are highly embarassing, and I deeply suggest that you do not read them. (I haven't the heart to take them down) Next came JAG, a current (if cancelled) love of mine that lasted a full TWO YEARS! (GASP!) The relationship between Harm and Mac (with the occasional annoying spook or dumb Australian thrown into the mix) absolutely fascinated and, at the same time, frustrated me to no end. How could I NOT follow it to its massive conclusion in May of 2005? Though the show's quality dwindled by the tenth season, JAG still holds a special place in my heart, as does my most recent crappy fic (again, please don't read it...). After the end of JAG, I searched relentlessly for a decent fandom to hold onto. I was into Charmed, ER, and Degrassi (again) fiction for a while, but nothing really stuck. In August of 2006, my angel came in the form of an old friend whom I have I always thought to be the second half of my soul (in a platonic, sisterly way). This lovely young lady introduced me to the lovely world of : BAH...BAHBAHBAHBUHBAHBUHBAH Dummmm dummmmm dadada DAHH DAHH duh duh duh DAHHH duh dadada duuuuuhhhhhh... AKA Star Wars! I was captivated by the characters of Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewie, but wanted to know more about their predecessors. So I rented copies of Episodes I, II, and III. Needless to say, I fell in love. Not only were these movies action-packed, fun, and also wonderfully emotional, but they had lightsabers! And really hot guys in tunics! And...and...there was political intrigue, too! In summary, my PERFECT movies!!! (Of course it helped that I was unhealthily obsessed with Obi-Wan Kenobi/Ewan McGregor, Qui-Gon Jinn/Liam Neeson, and Anakin Skywalker/Hayden Christensen within the the first five minutes of seeing any of them...) These movies are, I think, going to be my favorites for the rest of my natural life. Not only did Star Wars give me a pathway to new and poignant angsty fiction, but they also introduced me into a fierce love of slash pairings. The only time I'd ever enjoyed slash relationships was in a few well-written pieces of Harry/Ron fiction, but my love grew with the introduction of Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan and Anakin/Obi-Wan relationship stories. I once had a friend wonder out loud why the world can't accept that the Jedi are celibate; I very quickly choked on my Fresca and angrily spluttered out numerous pieces of evidence about the love between Anakin and Obi-Wan. (She stared at me for a few moments, and then proceeded to smack me for ruining her image of the Master-Padawan relationship...oh, well...) As of about a week ago, however, I discovered a new fandom, thanks to the lovely XtinethePirate and her most entertaining LiveJournal: WB's Supernatural! I haven't actually gotten to watch an episode physically on the television yet, but I am watching tonight (!) and found a grainy version of the Pilot on YouTube (my other obsession...). Plus I've been reading some great Wincest fanfiction, and I absolutely LOVE it so far! We'll see if I branch out into writing SPN fanfiction, but I would imagine that it could happen quite easily! Anyway, my current projects revolve around a few SW projects: one involving a fatherly moment between Anakin, Obi-Wan, and a youngling; and one involving Anne Higgins' Bonding Universe relationship between Qui-Gon (Quiggy) and Obi-Want (The Imp). (Please read this absolute work of art: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/2564/bonding.html) I have also recieved much-awaited permission from XtinethePirate to publish a short story inspired--just inspired, not a true epilogue, as she has confessed a wish to possibly add a few more chapters--by her Solstice Night universe. (Again, another amazing story: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2737374/1/) I haven't a clue when they'll be published, but in the meantime you can check out my favorite stories of varying fandoms! About Me: As far as my real life goes, I'm an American teenager. Definitely not normal, but I guess it's all relative...I'm eighteen and working on college applications. I hope to go to Brown University to study either Political Science, International Relations, or Middle Eastern Studies (CLEARLY I want to find the Earth equivalent of Tatooine...). I spend my spare time with my horse, My Secret Revenge (aka Seeker), who is an eight-year-old ex-racehorse. He's a lovely boy, but needs a great deal of work before I sell him this summer before college. (I'll be devastated, as he is like my son...) I also teach horseback riding lessons to kids, compete in Model United Nations competitions (if anyone mentions "Winning London" I will not hesitate to send them a virus...), and volunteer at a therapeutic riding center for disabled children. Other than that, my time is spent sleeping, eating, studying, or reading FANFICTION!!! Tootles, y'all! Happy reading! | |||||||
