The words spoken, meant to help-but- If you loved me, you’d do it-These Words that mean so little, yet still- Why don’t you love me? The careless utterances, tossed out to the air, Given and Handed, Shoved towards Those boys and girls who know how it goes... She Writes Love On Her Arms- Carves it in, levers out the broken sounds With a pumpkin knife, Scratches out the hateful messages In a vain attempt to forget. He paints love on the wall, His brains and blood intermingling with The bones of a boy long dead, The bright-red begging you- “Love me.” They fill themselves with love, Throwing out the cruel missives With their nourishment and their lives; Can’t hope for more, can only think of the- Love written on her arms, Chiseled in between xylophonic ribs and Blown out brains, The words begging for it, the scars saying that she once Wrote Love- On Her Arms. Little Children Hush little children, don’t be afraid. Mamma is here; she’ll keep you safe. No monsters or dragons shall cross your path; no sickness or death shall ever be met. Come here little children, we miss you so. Pappa is here; he promises not to go. Come back to your hoodies, your salsa and your phones; please, oh please, we miss you. Sleep little children- no fears will plague you now. No sorrow sickness or pain; your Earth has grown cold, and the world has become distant; Just kisses and hugs and pretty tears- Only angels that sing of silver and gold and a good Lord who kisses your soul. Dream sweetly little children- you shall never need sleep here. Chase butterflies painted gold and kiss a dragonfly’s wings. But little children please remember- you are so young and we so old.
