Author has written 26 stories for Voyagers!. About Me Education and Work: I have been a registered nurse for the past 36 years. I worked for 20 years doing many different kinds of nursing, including emergency department, med-surg, geriatrics and occupational health. Sixteen years ago, after earning my Master's Degree in Nursing Education, I answered an add to teach in a high school of all places. My husband said, "why don't you go see what they have to say?" Guess what? God sure works in mysterious ways, because I have been teaching high school students about medical careers and running a certified nurse assistant program for them ever since. Not only that, but I love it, AND apparently I'm good at it because my students do very well on all the standardized tests and certification exams the state gives them. Because of the acute shortage of nursing instructors in our state, I was asked to teach nursing students, so I also teach part time in the RN program at our local Community College. It keeps me current and I'm able to prepare my high school students better for the high expectations at the college level. Volunteering: Along with my husband of 31 years (who knows where that time went), I volunteer three hours each week at a local non-profit in our town that supports people on the autism spectrum and their families. Hobbies: I sing alto in my church choir and I especially love to sing four part harmony a cappella. It is a rare week that I miss church or choir rehearsal. I also quilt, though since I've been writing so much, I've been quilting less. I play guitar and piano, once in awhile I will play in church. I also love horseback riding, though I'm happy just raking manure out of a stall as long as I'm close to horses. Family: My daughter graduated from college in 2009 and was married last year. She just had a wonderful home birthing experience and gave us a beautiful granddaughter. She is happy and therefore I'm happy. As I said above, my husband and I have been happily married for 31 years, though sadly, he doesn't care for fiction of any kind at all, so it's hard for me to share my writing experience with him. But in every other way we are a great match! About My Stories: I first found Voyagers! in June of 2009 and I fell in love with the show. It had the relationships of friendship and family, as well as time travel and an orphan, all of which I especially like. I found this site and read most of the stories, and then started writing my own. I've always loved to write, but I never thought about publishing anything on-line. Somewhere along the line, in December 2009 I think, I was lucky enough to connect by e-mail with Mrs. Phineas Bogg, who not only encouraged me to post a story, but patiently taught me how. So, my journey as a published fan fiction writer began. I am indebted to her for continuing to answer my questions and offering support and encouragement when I need it. One thing I guess all writers learn is that writing for an audience is different than writing for yourself. When you write for yourself, you know what you mean, but for others, you really have to explain it to them, so they see it like you do. It seems obvious, but it is a lesson I learned since posting here. My writing has evolved in other ways too, since I've been posting here. I've always been more interested in the relationship the characters have with each other, than with the plot. For me, the relationships are so important that they can easily overshadow the story line. I sometimes write scenes depicting some aspect of a relationship, something I want Phineas or Jeff to say, for example, and then fit a plot around them. Linking the scenes together into a coherent whole is sometimes a challenge and often a story will surprise me because it ends up a lot different than I intended in the first place. I don't know if I should give it away, but, I am a sucker for a happy ending. So, even though bad things sometimes happen in my stories, they are there only so the good qualities the characters possess can shine through more brilliantly in contrast. Also, my stories will never contain explicit gore, violence or slash. Thank you for reading my Profile and my stories! Voyager Tip 8) | |||||||
