Your palms are sweating. Your body is squirming helplessly in your chair. Your feet are rubbing intermittently against the floor. You feel the blush creeping on to your cheeks. Your finger pauses over the scroll wheel when it comes time to see the next paragraph.

You only scroll one click.

With a loudly smacked forehead, you read the newly discovered sentence, all the while dreading and anticipating the next. Maybe you even have to look away. Just look away, gurlfran. You can't even believe Edward just... Did he really do that? In public? And he's just... standing there? Oh, that poor, anxious boy. You wanna hug him and tell him it'll all be okay, or maybe you want to slap him. Maybe you want to laugh or frown.

Nevertheless, it is those awkward—uncomfortably awkward—endearingly awkward—adorkably awkward—painfully awkward—moments and characters that we wanna see.

Just... plain... awkward.

We're not talking geeky or nerdy or dorky, though the character can be. We want them anxious and nervous and feeling like they're about to vomit.

Rules:

1. The "Awkward" Theme.
- The theme of your entry must orbit around an awkward character and/or situation.
- How you define "awkward" and incorporate it into your entry is a major scoring parameter.

2. Stories MUST Be.
- New.
- Between 2,000 and 20,000 words in length, as tabulated by MS Word 2007.
- No more than three chapters.
- If split into chapters, posted all at once.
- Beta'd or edited.

3. What's Allowed.
- Any pairings.
- Any main characters.
- Any universes.
- All ratings.
- All genres.
- Collaborations.
- Entries via Fanfiction.net, Twilighted.net, and LiveJournal.com.

4. What's NOT Allowed.
- No more than 2 entries per penname or collaboration group.
- Rape, incest, and beastiality. Not the kind of awkward we're looking for.
- Existing characters or stories.

About the Judged Scoring:

All judging and validating will be done anonymously. This means that our judges will not be privy to story titles or pennames. They will be forbidden from perusing the archive or reading any entries that we haven't sent them ourselves. They'll only get story text, and will have to score the entries on various criteria during the course of judging.
