Well, I suppose to start with the basics, my name is Samantha and I'm 21 years old. I hail from the Northeastern Coast of the US and will be starting my senior year of college as an American Lit. major with a minor in philosophy next fall.
Fun facts time? I suppose I'll list some fun facts here for good measure.
People who know me tell me that I read faster than practically anyone they've ever met. My college advisor wrote me a three page job recommendation in which he stated that I'm one of the best thematic writers to pass through the school in years. I've written three plays, one of which I had performed. I'm hopelessly and shamelessly still in love with the band Hanson. I work for the Apple Company and firmly believe that once you go Mac, you'll never go back. I'll be starting the PhD program at Tufts University next fall. My favorite color is orange, my favorite book is Anthem by Ayn Rand (well, aside from Twilight and Harry Potter, of course), and the fictional loves of my life include Edward Cullen, Jasper Hale, Jim Halpert (from The Office), and the Weasley twins. I have blonde hair, with a pixie haircut that much resembles Alice Cullen's, blue eyes, two dogs, and a younger sister who is nothing like me.
I'm a fun, down to Earth and ridiculously random person, and I hope that you enjoy my writing.
I write fan fiction when - and only when - the mood strikes appropriately. Sometimes it comes in the form of a song lyric, or a phrase in a book, or a quote said in daily life by myself or a friend. I used to write predominantly in the Harry Potter fandom, but recently I've been struggling with myself to write a Twilight fic, because like every other girl in the world, I too have fallen for Edward Cullen.
I just registered as a beta on the site, so if you're interested I'd be happy to look at your work and try to make some kind of arrangement with you - see my beta profile if you're interested!
About my writing style:
In Harry Potter fics, I like to make Harry a bit more profound than most people give him credit for. I love Harry, and I really think he gets the wrong end of the stick sometimes. Also, I usually enjoy delving into the more serious sides of characters, which is why my characterizations seem out of character sometimes. I've written plenty of one shots involving the Twins (although I haven't published one! Ridiculous), and I usually manage to find the serious yet playful side in them.
In my Twilight fics, I have a hard time writing Edward/Bella, solely because I'm not good at writing fluff or pure romance - I always have to have some angst involved. However, I am trying with my first full-lengther, Tempting Fate. Likewise, I love the Jacob/Bella/Edward triangle, and I find Bella and Jacob's relationship to be really intriguing (even though I'm a proud member of Team Edward all the way!), and you'll see that I characterize him a little differently when I write him. Despite him being OOC, and despite the fact that I absolutely adore Bella, I've been in Jacob's position and it is thoroughly unpleasant and I feel like Jacob should be allowed to lash out at Bella without any verbal restraint, at least once.
Overall I write mostly angst - I'm not precisely sure why that is because I'm generally a fairly upbeat, happy and energetic person, but if that's how I purge myself of suppressed negative energies, I suppose that's the healthiest way I can do it! I think I'm fairly good at writing emotion - I try to keep melodramatics to a minimum, for the most part.
I can't write comedy. I've tried. I'm of the opinion that I come out with absolutely hilarious comments in every day life, but when I write it, it seems forced, so any comedy that happens in any of my stories is purely by accident.
